But I guess it's good for the consumer that the Canadian government rapes you with taxes compared to the United States.

Here, this is from Wikipedia:

"Taxation

The average tax rate in Canada is higher than in the United States. In Canada total tax revenue for every level of government equals about 43% of GDP ([1]), compared to the U.S. rate of only 25.6% ([2]). In 1999, Canada's total tax burden is 48% of income for a family of four with average income. This is 14% higher than in the United States, a leading cause of brain drain to the USA. [3] There is some regional variation, however. A resident of oil rich Alberta may pay roughly equal taxes to a resident of high tax Maine, but a resident of low tax New Hampshire pays much less than a resident of Alberta.

The taxes are applied differently as well. Canada's income tax system is more heavily biased against the highest income earners, thus while Canada's income tax rate is higher on average, the bottom fifty percent of the population is roughly taxed the same on income as in the United States. However, when considering Canada has a national sales tax of 7% on all purchases, while the U.S. federal government has no sales tax at all, Canadian low-income earners are thus more burdened by taxes than their low-income American counterparts because a sales tax is regressive by nature."

Yup, and while you're quoting Wikipedia, I'll be ordering my Shelby at MSRP.

And remember, Canada has a trade surplus while the United States has a TRADE DEFICIT. Cause your current economic policies are just that effective.

Y'all better start learning to speak Spanish...or is that Chinese?

I'll also take our health care system over yours ANY DAY.

Maybe you better put another "God Bless America" song in your signature to convince me of the error of my ways.

Well, my loan was approved...

especially
One entry found for especially.

Main Entry: es·pe·cial·ly
Pronunciation: is-'pesh-lE, -'pe-sh&-
Function: adverb
1 : SPECIALLY 1
2 a : in particular : PARTICULARLY <food seems cheaper, especially meats> b : for a particular purpose <built especially for research>
3 -- used as an intensive <an especially good essay> <nothing especially radical in the remarks>

specially
One entry found for specially.

Main Entry: spe·cial·ly
Pronunciation: 'spe-sh(&-)lE
Function: adverb
1 : in a special manner <treated her friends specially>
2 a : for a special purpose <dresses made specially for the occasion> <wines specially selected to match each course> b : in particular : SPECIFICALLY <made specially for you>
3 : ESPECIALLY 2 <makes a specially fine curry> <was specially pleased with the gift>

I would conclude, after careful study of your recommended reading, that based on the context in which this particular word was used, especially def. 2 would be the most accurate adverb.

And by the way, there is some overlap in the uses of especially and specially, and if you understood English, as opposed to just cutting and pasting from online dictionaries, you would know that in the broadest terms, both words mean ‘particularly’ and the preference for one word over the other is linked with particular conventions of use rather than with any deep difference in meaning. For example, there is little to choose between: written especially for Jonathan and | written specially for Jonathan, and neither is more correct than the other.

That's right, I am an English major. And strictly speaking, 1 Bullitt is quite correct in his usage.

You'll take your Health Care system over ours. My 37 year old wife had a hip replacement last year. Went to go see the doc, and scheduled it within 2 weeks. Let's see, if I understand it correctly, you have about a 6 month wait in Canada. Ya, that's progress!!!

Couple of nice articles:

Great observation, MR. English major. If you will notice, I intentionally included ALL definitions when I "cut & pasted" so as not to hide any possible uses. I also stated that the BEST use in the aforementioned post would be "Especially", which is more closely matched to the context of the statement than "specially".

Nice find, although I would like to point out that one might consider a typo somewhat different than the misuse of a word.

Sadly, those articles - while making a couple of salient points - don't tell the whole story: like if your situation is truly critical, your MD can recommend immediate treatment, at which point you usually jump to the head of the line. And in an absolute emergency, you are treated promptly...and this is the important distinction: REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU ARE RICH OR NOT.

Try THAT in New Orleans...or most U.S. cities, for that matter.

Sorry, try again...

Well, I'm not sure why the Canadian Insitute for Health Information would lie about the statistics. Of course people with urgent care will get cared for first. But a six month wait is just not acceptable.

Now, do you really think that people here in the States are denied medical attention when needed. Hmmmm. Funny, why then are the Mexican immigrants busting down the doors to get into our country??? Or maybe it's just a stopping point before they reach Canada. Maybe that's it, right?

We'll just have to agree to disagree. But before I do, I'll go to democraticunderground.com to figure out what you're next anti-American talking point will be. Maybe it's that Bush purposely had the levies in New Orleans blown up. Or, Bush was behind 9/11. I'm sure you'll come up with something.
