Just think, if you pay 10% of that you would still be taken to the cleaners.

Yeah, I was watching that. $600,000 for one of those things is crazy. Wonder what kind of money those people have....

With all the TV fanfare, documentation, and being the first off the production line, that GT500 is a collector's dream come true. The day Shelby kicks the bucket it will instantly be worth 4 times that much, if not more.

This bid was really a donation to the Shelby Children's foundation, so its all tax deductible. Whomever won the bidding got a once in a lifetime deal. They did the same thing with the first GT, but I don't recall the charity the money went too.

Wow. At least their stupidity benefits needy children. Then again, that may have something to do with why the car sold for so much anyway.

Some philanthropic rich guy was gonna make a half-a-million dollar donation anyway, so why not get the very first GT500 while youre at it, right?

That's why it really doesn't bother me too much. If a charity hadn't been the recipient, then I'd say it was pretty absurd to bid up that high.

I believe that they are getting the first off the production line (that is available to the public) so it won't be number 1 but it will be a low number.

That is correct. The one shown at the auction is a final version, pre production show car.

He gets an early VIN GT500 while donating $600K to a worthy charity (which makes it tax deductible). Yep, pretty dang foolish!

Is it really deductible though when you get something in return for the money, then it is no longer a true donation, because you got something in exchange...

I hope this isnt the kind of mindset we are going to be up against, this "I have to have it now at all costs", train of thought.
I have pretty much given up on the idea that I will be able to get one this summer. I am thinking it will be the Spring of 07 before I can get one for MSRP. :notnice:

My company does the United Way thing and we get gifts and prizes for participating and we can still claim it as a tax deduction. I doubt this is any different.
