From Autoblog:
Ford will auction the right to purchase the first 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 coupe available to the public during the 35th annual Barrett-Jackson auction in January 2006. Carroll Shelby is scheduled to greet the winning bidder of the auction, and proceeds from the no-reserve sale will go to the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation.

That's a smart move by Ford. No, make that a brilliant move. They'll kill two birds with one stone.
Giving to charity is great for public relations and the exposure will validate their MSRP regardless of any short comings. The dealers will love this show and the subsequent AMVs.
Those hoping to get a GT500 best get ready to open your wallets.

wow, I can't wait to see what the winning bid will be! 50k? more?

#2-7500 won't have investor value for a really long time. Don't be suckered in by the price #1 brings. It does not make the others worth any more.

clearly more. Car #1 will have investor value. Especially with the history of being sold like this.

While I agree with that statement, there will only be one first GT500. However, I can assure you most (if not all) dealers will use the price the 1st car sells for to "gouge" ... umm... adjust the value of the remaining 7,499 cars.

korinwoodo, good guess. I'm thinking 100-125. It wouldn't totally surprise me to see more.
My GT500 purchase price anxiety is getting out of control. My dealer has promised me MSRP all along. But, like any sane person, I don't fully trust a car dealer. I have a little feeling in my gut that tells me he will try to get more. I won't pay it. I'll either wait or buy something else. Either way, it won't be from that dealer. Once he violates my trust, I am gone for good.

This is exactly the attitude and post that feeds the AMV...

It's beginning to level off. I've noticed a turn around on attitudes and enthusiasm or at the very least a more realistic approach to our plans.

The possible addition of competitive platforms will most likely lower it as well. (Read possible Chevelle/Camaro and Challenger)
Either way I think it is great that the first one is going to a worthy cause, and I agree that the prices may start high but they should drop fairly quickly. There are not that many people out there with a lot of money that want a Shelby for a high price. Otherwise they don't have a lot of money for long or they shop for Vipers, Lambos etc.

These kinds of prices on a decontented car with a live axle are utter rubbish. Jesus, even a '63 Corvette (that's right 42 years ago, folks) had an IRS.
This is SUPPOSED to be a modern automobile.
As someone else said, at least the money is going to a good cause.

Its all about trying to add as much a possible and still be under a certain price.
Stop complaining about all the things it doesn't have and look at the things it does have.
Like a 475hp engine that will run and drive and last as long as a standard Mustang GT engine.

I don't see a bit of a problem with the stick axle.......talk to the Grand American Cup teams about your dislke of it, they just so happened to have cleaned up this year with that very setup, so I believe it will suffice on YOUR street car.

I already told my dealer that if he goes any mre that $3K over MSRP I'll walk. Then I talked to the other guys on this dealer's list and told em to do the same. Well with 8 of us threatening to walk I doubt we will get gougedto badly. An auction car shouldn't change value of an entire line of cars. Just that 1 that was auctioned. If a dealer says oh well the first one sold at auction for $100,000 over MSRP so $10K over isn't bad, tell them this isn't the first one, cut the bs, and threaten to walk. And if they say fine walk, then wait around and see if the car leaves the lot. After a month or two go back and offer MSRP. If they still won't budge, goto another dealer.

yup I can see it now..the dealer excuse when somone turns thier nose up at the rediculous markeup will be "it one of these sold at BJ for 150K, you'd be getting a bargain at 75K"
