Correct, the 05 Mustang GTs WERE going for sticker...but it didn't last very long. Just those folks who had to be first on the block with one (and I can't say I blame them) paid over sticker. After a couple of months the supply caught up with demand, and you can now get a good deal on a GT in most areas.

I think the same thing will happen on the GT 500, for those who are willing to wait.

 

Like the Xbox360...just wait. In Jan. retailers like Walmart will have them in stock all the time Its going to take forever...isnt it?
If I win the lotto or inheirit or stumble across a briefcase filled with lots of dough or get a big raise, I will be the first in line to buy one @ my local SVT Dealer.

 

The Shelby is not going to be mass produced like the Mustnag GTs and Xboxes. How many Ford GT's went for sticker?

 

Road and Track says 10,000 per year on the Shelby. That is mass production. IT is not a rare supercar and therefore, not worth AMV. The Cobras, MAch 1s and Bullitts all had the AMV in the beginning and all had rebates at the end. The Shelby will do the same.

 

I'm sure that the 3 GT500s that Ford made to use for crash testing do not count as car number one for this variant?

 

I'm sure those are designated as pre-production vehicles.

 

I thought I had read 7500. I think the Shelbys will have quite a bit more demand than the other special Mustangs.

I just noticed you live in Muncie, I am in Fishers. What dealer are you using? I bought my GT from Andy Mohr in Plainfield. When you get your Shelby , can I meet you for a ride?

 

I started at Tom Wood when the 2003 Cobras were first out. They wanted $2000 over for coupes and $5000 for 'verts. I bargained for a few days and they wouldn't budge. At the time, I was talking to Kenny Brown about doing a serialized car when I got it. They recommended Mike Raisor Ford in Lafayette, IN. I went up there and really liked them. They have never charged AMV on any of their Mustangs including Saleen, Roush and SVT. They did charge it on their one and only Ford GT.

Talk to Ed Pietsch (peach). He is a true car guy and loves Mustangs and Cobras.

While waiting for the prices to come down, they unveiled the 2005 concept and I decided to wait for the next gen Cobra. Here I am, still waiting. It is just around the corner, finally.

Oh here we go again.....Its a Mustang, When push comes to shove they can make as many as they can sell. Nothing exotic about it. Compare it to a Ford GT?? Come on now. Yes the first ones will go for more then MRSP. 1 year from release they will be piled up on the lot like 04 Cobras and selling for 5 g under MRSP. Remember the T Bird??

 

oh.....I was kidding about the xbox360 thing. I know they are not going to be for sale @ Walmart (except in the toy isle)
but I could see some Mustang fans that have the money to buy a GT500, camping outside the SVT dealership two nights before the vehicle transport from Ford arrives. kinda like those Xbox nuts, or maybe Star Wars fans on opening night. :jedi: ...ummm... that new car smell. My point is this car is having the same impact that the Lamborghini Countach had in 1971 @ the Turrin Auto Show. Its spectacular!! Its theatrical to see on TV, and amazing to see up close. If you get to see one in person, you will remember where you were when you first saw it for years to come.

 

Yes, and the fact that it will be produced to the winners specifications sounds even more enticing.....gonna go ask for my raise right now (yeah, right :notnice: ) and register for online bidding. I've been waiting for Mr Shelby to come back to the 'stang for some time now and the chance to get a piece of history may be more than I can stand.

 

This may have been posted but checking the BJackson website, the car is scheduled to be bid on Saturday 1/21 (Lot #1259.1) - it will be the 60th car that day. The Foose Mustang will be later that day

I'm sure most have heard this, and I even did a search to see if the topic had been previously discussed, but didn't see anything to it. If it had been mentioned, I apologize in advance. Ford gave the Shelby Children's Foundation the 1st 2007 GT500, and will auciton it off at Barrett-Jackson this week. It will probably go on the block on Saturday evening, as this is when the high dollar cars go up for sale. For anyone who will be watching the auction, the lot # for the car is 1259.1. All the procedes will be going to the Shelby Children's Foundation. With the money going to charity, expect the bids to soar, as it can be written off as a tax deduction. Can't wait for Saturday to see just how much the first one will go. Remember, the 1st customer Ford GT went for $550,000 at the Christie's auction a few years back.

 

I checked the Barrett-Jackson website and found something very interesting. They are very good at not mis-representing items up for auction. They descibe the car as "an early VIN 2007 Shelby GT500 coupe, the first one offered for sale to the public. The car will be produced to the successful bidder’s specification, including the color and factory available options, for delivery when production begins later in the year." This would seem to clearly say it will not be Serial Number 1. That car will probably go to some Ford exec. or maybe even Shelby himself. That car will probably be worth a million dollars someday, while the car being auctioned will probably be worth 50 grand in ten years. It may be worth a little more if it is a single digit serial number but I bet most of those are currently making the autoshow circuit already. I was guessing it would go for around 125 grand since a Ford GT can be got in the 150's but I don't think I would go that high if it is not serial number 1. If anyone knows for sure I'm wrong about this and it will be #1 please let me know before saturday...

Mike, I read that too. The funny thing, on Monday, during the Barrett-Jackson show, "Behind the Bids" or whatever it was called. At the end, Craig Jackson said this was the year of 1st's, and he specifically mentioned the 1st custoomer '07 Shelby is going up for Auction. You are right about the representation or mis-representation of some cars. I guess we will find out on Saturday.

 

When they did this with the Ford GT, it went for about $550k or close to 4x it's value. That would put the Shelby right at about 125. I bet it goes for more than that. More like 175 or so. Even though it is not number1, it is still documented to be the first publicly sold one. There will be hype and money. All B-J needs to exceed that. Maybe even more.
