X Plan savings

Hopefully my 2012 will be in before long, I already have a price that I worked out with the dealer. Can anyone who has actual experience with buying with the X plan tell me how much you saved on say a 35K car. I ordered a 2012 GT Premium 6 speed manual, 3.55 rear and security package, total with shipping is 32700, MSRP is close to 35. This does not include title and taxes and plates. If I can save more I might consider joining MCA. Did a search but it wasn't refined enough.. thanks in advance

I used the X plan to purchase my 2011. I believe the sticker was almost 33 before x plan. It dropped it down to about 30. It was something like $300 above invoice prices.

X plan is .4% (.004) under invoice plus $275 & the doc fee is a max $100, here in Ohio most dealers charge $250. So if you factor the extra $150 off you basically pay invoice. Some dealers will order for below invoice though . . . but that involves haggling over price where X plan doesn't.

Hope this helps put it all in perspective; these are real world numbers off of an invoice for a 2012 Mustang:

MSRP 35,250
X Plan 33,117
Invoice 32,973

Mine was $36,420 MSRP, invoice was $33959.56, got it for $34098.72 on X plan ($139.16 over invoice). Plus the $75 limit on doc fees saved a bundle compared to the $695 that Florida dealers usually charge.

The X-Plan is applicable when the purchase price has not already been agreed.

Final price obviously will depend on options, but a general rule of thumb is a few hundred bucks off invoice which you can determine such as edmunds.com. Be careful though if you are trading in, that could be the hardest part since these dealers know that they can't gouge you on the new vehicle.

this is a straight sale no trade, As to the price I have been quoted, this is from a dealer that I always buy my fords from, I always get quotes from the other two dealers in the area, never show them the numbers, but the they know I have them and they always beat the other two dealers prices. If I can get a better price out of them I will try to get it, even with the price they have quoted me. I send them a bunch of business. The 2012 they are getting for me is on a handshake, because I have never seen Lava Red and told them if I don't like the color when I see it I am not buying the vehicle, but having seen the color on the ford website that is not likely to happen. I have been dealing with this dealer for 13 yrs and never a sour note.. On a side note I got the 2012 brochure in the mail today but it didn't have the fabled $750.00 certificate in it, and I haven't gotten an email either as some have with the discount.

Not necessarily. X plan is a non-negotiable price for which the dealer may or may not participate. But if a dealer participates with X plan, there is no reason you can't attempt to negotiate a better deal and then fall back on X plan if you're not satisfied with what you negotiate.

According to the X-Plan rules: Who's Eligible? Customers are eligible for the X-Plan if they were identified and sponsored, by a Ford Motor Company employee or retiree, before visiting a dealership.

Anyone can get X-Plan by buying 50 shares of Ford stock and holding it for 6 months. So just go into the dealer, and tell the salesman, either sell me the car today for the X-Plan price (or there abouts), or you are going to wait 6 months. Time value of money ought to have them seeing the light pretty quickly.

Where did you find that? X plan is not like the A or D plans that involve employees and family. X plan is available to employees of certain partners and large customers of Ford as well as stockholders and some special groups such as Mustang Club of America. You do not have to be sponsored and you certainly don't have to call ahead to the dealer before shopping.

I was at an impasse negotiating with my dealer when he asked who I work for then told me I was eligible for X plan. I had never heard of it before that.

It comes from the rules and regs at AXZ.ford.com. All X-Plans are "sponsored"; when you receive one from MOA or a supplier there is a rep at the supplier or MOA that contacts Ford corporate for a PIN. When you receive your PIN from your source they are responsible for informing you of the rules -- the fact that some may not do not make the rules any less valid.

When you approach a dealer negotiating a price especially if you are negotiating trade-in you MUST identify yourself as an X-Plan recipient or any values for trade in are not binding. Same for ordered cars.

ie. You approach a dealer looking to trade in your car, you negotiate a price ($30,000) and trade in value ($10,000) and put down $2000 and order the car. The car comes in and you say you have X-Plan (price: $28500). For one, the dealer doesn't have to give you X-Plan at all, X-Plan participation isn't compulsory. Secondly, he doesn't have to honor the trade in value even if he agrees to take X-Plan; because that amount offered was based on the profit he was going to make on the sale.

Interesting. I suppose I didn't run into that because I always negotiate a price first before ever mentioning any possible trade.
