Those "who know stuff" have said that the GDI won't be on the 5.0 the first year; it'll be PFI. If that is the case, then the fuel economy improvements won't be available initially. Probably be worse than the 4.6, if it has the full 400 HP out of the box...

Unless both gearboxes (auto and manual) gain an extra gear. Then I would venture to say that the fuel economy would be comparable to the 3V 4.6. I don't have any data backing that up; that's just my thought.

True, though given the tanking economy - and estimating VERY roughly - I would expect 2010 new Mustang sales figures to only be about 50-60% of what they were in 2007.

Its one thing to cancel a project before the money really gets used, but to cancel a program when the item is about a year from going on sale is bad business. They'll come out with it, so they can make money with it, and get money back into the company.

Just for the record, I'm questioning the HP more than the engine itself. And everyone should be aware of the HP exaggerations that Ford gave us in the past (remember the 99 Cobra?) that would cause them to probably be more careful in the future.

If you guys say 400 HP, then okay with me. If it's less, you can bet I'll have a few words for all of you "insiders". LOL

If this 5.0 is coming for sure in 2011 then there probably are some "mule" engines out there in development right? I have not heard anything about engines secretly being tested. Anybody know where this engine is as far as development, for sure?

I may be wrong (no surprise there) but a few glaring exceptions aside, isn't Ford historically known for underrating their horsepower numbers?

If you haven't read, Ford is the most solvent of all 3. They have the $$$ for business for good while yet (2010). Plus, as Boomer mentioned in a previous post, the new 5.0 is gonna be more fuel efficent than the current 4.6 and 5.4 V8s. You can't keep motors that get worse economy in production, when you got a better motor ready. This alone is why its gonna happen.

Let me ask you this? How do you know those 2010 mules driving around DON'T have the new 5.0 in them? You can't see the motor through the hood, lol. And your sure as hell know Ford won't get caught with the hood up on one in a spy shot. Engine testing is the easiest thing to do, since no one can see it.

Oh yeah!!! Ford GT anyone? Car is said to have 550hp at the fly? Heah, at the wheels is more like it!!!

Same with the Terminators. They said 390? I heard as much as 440hp to the flywheel.

As several have said, Ford has been known to underrate their engines' power figures lately; it's probably because of the 1999 Cobra fiasco. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if the new 5.0L were "rated" at 360-380 horsepower, but really put down 400+hp!

Yeah, no kidding it was 10 years ago. Did you think that Ford would dare put out a Mustang with lower than advertised HP after that PR mess? BTW, it made news in the big car rags (Motor Trend, Car and Driver, etc...) and some even went as far as to dyno later Mustangs to make sure they were making the advertised HP. I think it was Car and Driver that dynoed the '03 Cobra to verify that it was making the HP that Ford claimed. If I remember correctly, the results were dead on to the advertised HP. They even verified it using a coastdown test to determine drivetrain losses.

Ford has cash, but they are still in trouble losing money as we speak. If Ford was in a solid poisition on their balance sheet, they wouldn't be asking Congress for a share of the bailout.

Like I said earlier, GM and Chrysler have cut transmission and engine programs too that are better than current models in terms of efficiency.

In the end, it all depends on the economy. Analysts say that car sales won't return to normal unitl 2011/2012. My original point is that nothing is guaranteed in this economy.

I have seen a couple of spy pics of Ford testing the 5.0 V8 in some mules. At least that's what they thought it was since the tailpipes were different, and there was a bulge in the hood.

I just hope it has direct injection to start off with!

Huh? How can you tell the type of engine from the tailpipes? There is a bulge in the hood of the 2010 anyway. They wouldn't of designed the 2010 the way it currently is if the 5.0 didn't fit.

Quick Reply: will 2011 have the 5.0 for sure?? how sure?
