Who offers the best extended bumper-to-bumper warranty?

My girlfriend just got a 2011 GT/CS and while it's only got 18,000 miles on it, because of when it was first sold the bumper-to-bumper warranty is up and I'm getting the feeling one if not both of her power seats are on their way out. Instead of paying out of pocket to get them fixed, I was thinking maybe we should just spend a little more and pay for an extended warranty and have them fixed under that if they do in fact crap out.

I was wondering who offers the best warranty in terms of price, terms, customer service and so on. I went to the Ford website and when I put in what the year, make, model and mileage of the car were, it said they are unable to cover it under the usual Ford extended warranty. So I'm looking to anyone who's purchased an used Mustang and had to go through a 3rd party to get a warranty.

Hello John H,

Your vehicle can be covered by our ESPs. However, since the vehicle is used, it will need to go through an inspection at your Ford Dealer. Please see what coverage you’re interested in here and speak with the sales or finance manager for more information.

Many options out there that give great coverage for lots less than your Ford dealership and better sometimes. Google it! Watch out for things like wire harness is covered but not the wires coming out of the harness. Just an example. If you do go through Ford you should be able to bargain for a better price than the one they first give you.

Read the fine print whatever you do. With deductibles and statements where the warranty company does not pay for troubleshooting, sometimes it's just not worth the warranty costs. Basically, you are paying insurance against a product failure. They would not be in business if you got the better end of the deal.

If you want hassle free, cut and dry understanding of what is and isn't covered, buy a Ford warranty. If you want to deal with a company only paying a portion of the cost on certain items, go aftermarket.

Well, after getting a couple quotes, including calling the Ford ESP number and getting a quote from them, we contacted the Toyota dealership we bought the car from because we thought we remembered their warranty offer being quite a bit cheaper than the quotes we were getting. We were told when we bought the car that we had 30 days to call back and purchase it. We spoke to the finance manager and it was in fact about $600-800 cheaper vs the quotes we were getting elsewhere. It's a 3 yr/36k mile bumper to bumper coverage with $0 deductible.

It's actually a Toyota extended warranty but can be put on any car sold from a Toyota dealership (if I'm remembering correctly on how he explained it). They also don't charge the $108 non-refundable inspection fee that the Ford ESP was going to require. While I would have rather went with the Ford ESP, it was $800 more than this one and was told it was the best they could do on the price. So, at least we've got some piece of mind for the next few years.

Because her car is more than 3 years old, we couldn't enroll in the Ford ESP online. We were required to call their 1-800 number to get the info and quote.

If someone bought a Ford ESP plan is it possible to look up the information based on VIN?

I don’t think you can on the site, CriticalmassGT. However, I’m happy to look it up for you. Please PM me with your VIN and full name so I can help.

I have the Ford ESP on my 2015 EB, purchased on line from Troy Ford, in Ohio. The cost for 7 yrs, 100,000 miles, bumper to bumper with first day rental (effective now), including all lighting, interior and exterior, was $1465. ($100. deductible). It would have been cheaper if I had not opted for the rental and lighting package.

I also have the MOPAR Lifetime Warranty, bumper to bumper, on my wife's 2015 Jeep Cherokee. It was $2190. from our selling dealer.

Considering all of the electronics in these vehicle and the new technology incorporated in them, I felt this was a good investment. I know the MFD in my sister in law's Prius went out and they wanted over $3000 to replace it, out of warranty, in Arizona.

Man thats a lot of cash and most times there isn't to much goes wrong after the initial 3yr 36 or 5yr 60 B to B warranty is up. So you have a B to B warranty and then after that you have another 7 years and up to 100 k miles. My advice would be hold off on the extended warranty until your factory warranty is almost up. if your car gave you grief during that initial factory warranty than maybe buy an extended warranty. Cars are much more dependable than they use to be IMO.

So when you buy a 7yr 100 warranty what happens to the warranty that came with the car? I know you have two warranties at the same time.

And if the warranty is rolled over into your payments you're paying interest on it. Waste of money if you ask me.

I never finance anything but the car and that always goes to my CU. I also never buy anything from the dealer until I have shopped on line, so, the Ford ESP is from a dealer on line, while the Jeep is local, because the finance manger met the same cost as the on line sellers, when I presented the price to her. And these are not third party, which a lot of dealers push, but factory ESP's, which means any dealer will service the car, while traveling, even in Canada.

ESP's are a matter of personal choice, and should reflect how you drive the car. I don't store a car, waste of time, so the ESP works for me as I now get a free rental any time I take it in (both cars), even for an oil change. Also, the ESP covers all the lighting on the car, after the 3/36 expires, inside and out.

It's like a life insurance policy, you hope it's never used, but if you need it, it's there, just like the spare tire.
