^ yes
"factory" power bumps are much more meaningful than aftermarket gains because all the parameters changed (hardware or software) step up and work in unison

Well...the Aluminator Forged motor is available for $7.5k or so...and figure $1k install (if you don't want to tear down a nealy brand new car)...and you could probably sell a low mileage '11/'12 Coyote for $3.5k...so $5500 upgrade? That might work out to be the same as the depreciation on our cars.

Is the 2013 GT still OK to use 87 Octane? If not , a tweak to advance the base timing may explain it
And I am well aware the 11 & 12 5.0 is rated @ 412 on premium & that 87 octane drops it to 402 or so. Just saying that changing the margin, as requiring only 91 would allow, could result in a tweak to the tune to allow 420 with no change to hardware.

I thought I read somewhere that it had something to do with what they learned in making the Boss 302 engine. Maybe a revised intake or heads? I think Ford did that for one year with the 98 GT it had 10HP over the 96-97 models

If they did something we would seeing words like improved, optimized, etc and then followed up by a part of the engine or programming. Marketeers can always spare a couple words to tell us why our previous model is out of date and we now need to get the new one. When they don't it speaks volumes.
BTW, official horsepower ratings are done on the special fuel used for development and emissions purposes. It's a more pure gasoline than we can buy retail and doesn't have ethanol or any other oxygenates in it.

Ford certainly didn't pull a GM and re-certify their motor a few years later. There were internal changes to the motor, which came from the RoadRunner (Boss 302) motor development.

not sure why ppl are speculating it is just a tune or a statistics adjustment you made it pretty clear before that there were internal changes

Why give GM & Chrylser any of Ford's competitive edge? They're already in a tizzy now. Let em stew.

Since I am free to speculate I'll go with modified exhaust ports for improved flow. Improvements in the CFD work done in the Boss resulted in a mod the engineers wouldn't have expected gains from.
