What's the story with the '14 gt track pack oil capacity?

So buddy did my oil change and I brought him 8 quarts of 5W-50 motrocraft oil as per my owners manual and he said it wasn't enough. Then I started looking online and some people say the track pack and the boss 302's take 8.5 quarts of oil and not 8 quarts like the manual says. Some posts even say that some versions of the owners manual had an add-on page to mention this but if I pull up my owners manual online it doesn't talk about this nowhere:

8.5 quarts if you use the larger filler a little more. Expensive oil change since only 3 or 4 companies make the oil needed for this car.

+1 if the track pack comes with the oil cooler than it is 8.5 quarts and if you use the FL820S filter instead of the FL500S than you may want to put a tad more in.

Track Pack and Boss cars have an oil cooler which holds an additional half qt of oil. They also have different oil pans than regular 5.0s but its the cooler that adds the extra half qt.

Do we have the boss oil pan? A friend asked me last week and I wasn't sure

I believe so. The capacity is the same as regular GT, but they have baffling to increase the protection value of oil reserve at high lat.

So in the most crucial piece of information to a car's owner called the owners manual, ford couldn't get it right and specify this?

Well, the oil pan is 8QT. If you add oil to the filter that's 1/4 QT and another 1/4QT in the oil cooler brings you to 8.5 max.

But are you able to get all of the oil out of the cooler? I doubt it. So if you put 8QT you will be between the 2 dots. If you put 8.5QT you'll be toward the top dot. Either way it's fine.

I have put only 8qts in the 2 oil changes I've done so far with no problems. The owner's manual on the 2014 says only 8 qts for the Track Packs, I think it said 8.5qts on the 13's.

And where exactly does the oil level sit with 8 quarts after a fresh oil change on a track pack?

The more i was thinking about this, shouldn't the oil contained in the filter already be taken into account by ford? If not they would of listed capacity with and without filter change like some other manufacturers?

It is almost near the full line on the dipstick. I try to check my oil level at least every month, and so far it's been about the same.

I'm going to be doing my 3rd oil change next month. I usually buy them in cases, so I usually get 2 cases and have extra oil left, just in case the engine burns oil or something.

Just do the oil change and then check, if not you can always add the extra 1/2 qt.

The oil change spec are the same for the track pack as the boss. i have to tell the service department every time i go there. All they see is GT. One time i had to show the specs to them on my phone.

You don't need 5W50 in these cars anyway so, you can save a buck or two. That's for track use. Good old 5W20 will be perfectly fine on the road. There is no diff between the track pack engines and the regular GTs, other than the oil cooler and Boss rad.

If you are using Motorcraft, the 5W20 actually shears down slower than the additive laden 5W50.

In a track environment the motorcraft 5w50 seems to shear to about 30wt after a couple hundred track miles. Per my oil analysis. Not impressed. It'll hold up just fine for street use tho. And I agree it's unnecessary for street only cars.

It's in the Track Pack owner's manual supplement

Just did mine last week for the second time. I let it drain for a while. First filled with 8qts including pre oiling filter. Ran car for a few. Checked and oil was at bottom mark on dipstick. 1/2 qt more and it was dead on. Was exactly the same last time. If you have a track pack or boss, buy the 9th quart.

Yes. TP cars have the boss oil pan. Just one of the things they did not advertise.

Thanks for this. I never opened my owner's package and this supplement is one of the few documents you can't download from the owner's site.
