Slightly more aggressive styling, especially in the rear quarters. A little more comfort, like heated seat and side mirrors, wheel mounted audio controls, and my wife sure would like lighted vanity mirrors. Don't limit the ICAP to just red.

Don't waste money on the IRS, just get rid of the 4wd ride height and refine the existing suspension. Maybe some active settings for the shocks.

More HP, like a 5.4 3 valve.

If you check out the Ford of Australia Performance Vehicle website, they list two 6 speeds, the T56 manual and the ZF 6 speed. This is the text on the six speed auto:

Auto fans can option up to a new ZF 6-speed high-torque automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift. This high-performance automatic gearbox offers the best of both worlds. Its Sequential Sports Shift system allows the driver to make fast, clean manual gear changes to maximize all the available power for acceleration or quick downshifts. When in full auto mode, the adaptive shift system changes characteristics to suit your individual driving style.

Add more colors, and please include dark highland green!

A high-perfomance autobox would be a cool option, as long as there is a three pedal standard stick available as well.

My wish list:
a) A REAL FASTBACK
supercharged 5.4 somewhere as an option
c) quarterpanel mounted antenna
d) at least 3 differential options( I want to hit 60 in 3 secs., not go 180 mph all day )

I think its going to be the way a lot of cars are going to go,

Unless they get more expensive to get lightweight materials in there (which I'd rather the price stay competitive) you'll see its a trend with all cars, not just the stang getting heavier.

The new Camaro and Challenger won't exactly be lightweights

Give '09 an IRS & more cubes.

For the sake of dreaming, how about hard drives to store our CD’s instead of disk changers, and while we’re at it, let’s work a navigation system into that. Add Sirius satellite radio and Bluetooth capability so I can make/receive calls while I'm driving (one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick).

That gets me excited just thinking about it.

If a body change is to be made, make it more like the concept car. Otherwise, leave it pretty much alone on the outside.
Horsepower in the GT to match that of the V-8 Camaro.

IRS, heated seats and ZF 6 speed auto as options. And Dark Highland Green. Hmmm, the hybrid option is particlurly intriguing. If Ford could build one like this they'd rip the greenbacks out of my wallet in a microsecond.

Add more horsepower in the GT would up the price tag. 300 horsepower for 25K is the best value out there and is a major reason mustangs sell so well. Instead, a special edition Mach 1, or Boss version that could match the camaro V8 would be best. Something to slot between the GT and Shelby.

First off, I didnt read every single post in this thread, so my post may be a repost, but here it goes.

I'd like to see Ford bring back 3 bodys back, Fast/hatchback, notchback/coupe and the vert.

I also want Ford to do a V8 LX model again, with manual windows and locks. Put the 3V 4.6 in it, and let the GT have the 4V with VVTi.

A 6 speed manual would be nice.

Screw the IRS!!!!!! If I wanted a smooth ride, I'd buy a Lincoln.

Can we lighten it up a little?

lots of good ideas on this topic..... so ill throw in a few of mine
-first i think the mustang being the last surviving muscle car it should stay with a solid rear axel.... i think its kinda fun to keep the old american iron roots leave the irs for specialty models as an option
-a permenant modle betwwen the shelby and gt
-t-top option
-FUNCTIONAL SCOOPS
-hips+more of a fast back
-bring back the coupe
-please leave the fancy touch screen electronics to thge lincolns and infinities...this is a mustang not a bentley
_-and how bout some factory options to make it feel like a real racer, lke maybe pillar guages and a dash mounted tach, or a side exhaust option

In no particular order:

Better interior plastics.

Better interior lighting--this should have been part of the IUP from the start, IMO.

IRS option.

Rear seat real leather option.

Functional Ram Air/hood scoop option.

Hood struts.

Interior trunk release.

More range in the tilt wheel. Telescope would be nice also.

Legacy paint colors--especially DHG and Emberglo!!!

How about a 2 seater fastback? That'd never happen but it would be cool...

T-Tops would be very sweet, but I doubt it'll happen. That's a GM thing and Ford wouldn't want to be like them... they're ugly!

Late to the game here, but here's what I think *needs* to happen for the next Mustang to be as successful as the current generation, especially going up against the upcoming Camaro, etc.

new 3.5 V6 for base
new V8 for the GT, making 330-375 HP (400+ is for SE models)
IRS! No live axle option whatsoever
classier interior (better plastics, real leather for all seating surfaces, etc.)
internal radio antenna (just looks better)
Navigation system option (update of the current radio is fine for standard)
17" wheels standard for base, 18" wheels standard for GT; 19" wheels optional on GT
no fake scoops at all
good looking ducktail spoiler (either as the only spoiler option, or in addition to the current spoiler)
side and curtain airbags standard, base and GT

I think even if Ford has to raise the price a little more than they wanted to, this is what should happen....

I agree on the no rear seat. The rear seat is mostly usless so give us a factory option to get rid of it.

In read in a forum that maybe the notchback will return for the 09.

Any one in favor or against it.
Lets just hope Ford doesn't give SVT the job to make the Mach 1's or bosses.
You know what happened to the GT500

I believe the T-Tops were only made to make up for Ford not having a convertible on their Mustang II's and early Foxes so I don't see a reason for the return of the T-Top.
and youre right t-tops took away the cool styling of the Mustang especially in the Mustang II hatchbacks.

I have an idea , make a special edition Mustang that can kick the Challenger, Camaro's exhaust.

HHey Guys there are a lot of great ideas here!

IRS ? Idon't know. True it is great on a hard dry surface but you loose a lot of weight in the rear. I works for Corvette but they have a rear trans axle not just Irs.

Hybrid>? OK heck YAH . Sounds strange I know but all the hybrids out there are SUVs or Just plane stupid looking. Why not have a Hybrid that looks cool or have a Key switch to change settings to performance on the weekend and econno durring the week.

Heated seat aree cool. so are hips. I agree with the more agresive lines comments. But one thing the car is screaming for is CHROME.

It's on mini vans, SUVs Cross over vehicles you name BUT NOT ON THE MUSCLE CAR.

Even just a little bit of bumper accent and something around the windows would really pull it all together.

Special addition? COBRA JET ALA 1968 PRE MACH 1.
It had the B**LS but was less flashy than a full blown MACH !.

AND I know its not true to Origan but Please offer a factory sun roof. Not all of us have the extra 5 to 8 k for a vert.
and that would be my two cents.

One more thing !

AJUSTABLE PEDAL RACK!!!!!!!
