Jealousy or hate for the new model is a bit funny. I simply do not like the car because to me it is ugly. I will reserve final judgment until I see it in person but up to this point I do not like it and think they went backward with the designs changes.

I like new model cars of all shapes and sizes. Just not this one for now. I would never own a Dodge but I think the new Challenger looks great

Bash me all you want but I do not like the rear styling of the 2010 Mustangs. It is not a matter of interior, engines, drive train-I just don't like the styling and will keep the 2006 & 2007 I have or may trade for a 2009. Ugly is ugly, but each to their own opinion.

like several others have stated, the interior is very cool. I really don't care for the exterior at all........especially the rear end.

The antenna looks like something you'd pick up at a flea market, no love for those taillights and the rear difusser is just ugh, something I would expect on the back of an SUV. I have seen a painted version of the diffuser and it isn't too bad but stock it looks like k-rap!

The Good:
  • Overall materials and refinement up to current econocar standards, even a touch above in several instances, especially on the interior. Looks like they sweated the details rather than rushed to production as cheaply as possible.
  • Iconic hips on flanks, should have been done in '05.
  • Generic, tacky rear wing gone to the great J.C. Whitney catalog in the sky -- in-the-steel integrated duck tail a far, far better execution.
  • Drag and lift reduced, power can now be devoted towards moving ahead rather than just making noise and trying to fly.
  • Weight only went up a few pounds, still significantly undercuts its main rivals.
  • Aluminum strut bar looks way cool.
  • Nice new wheel and tire options.
  • Retro instrument graphics cool to see.
  • Slightly more power in GT.
  • Shorter rear axle ratios available, will feel quicker.
  • 2-piston front calipers with 3.73 gears, Stang good for more than two hard stops in a row?
The Bad:
  • A little too refined and polished, sacrificed equal parts character and distinctiveness for sedanish plushness, especially on the interior. Zero-sum result?
  • Non-iconic, generic bulge on hood (at least it isn't pretending to be a cheesy tacked-on scoop that fools nobody).
  • Rear styling a bit of a mess, bulky, droopy and heavy looking - out-of-scale black diffuser-wannabe thing too big and bulgy for rest of rear. The black diaper needs changing...
  • Soft fender bulges look, well, just soft and lacking in tone and sinew.
  • Taillights just trying too hard to be different, ends up fussy looking.
  • Weights should have gone down 100lbs.
  • Same old neolithic suspension behind the cool wheels.
  • Retro instruments hard to read.
  • Only slightly more power means its way behind the Camaro and Challenger.
  • Shorter axle ratio will only register on the butt meter, not the clock.
The Verdict:
  • A fairly predictable mid-life Botox and face lift improves its appearance a bit, but really needed to go to the gym instead to actually be able to run with the younger dogs now on the block. Traded some of the previous youthful tautness and flare for a bit more middle aged softness and refinement. 5.0, six speed and IRS should have been rolled out to make a truly compelling impact and to really put it in the hunt. '10 will be a pleasant-enough enhancement but any splash will be forgotten in about six months. Will Ford and the Mustang still be around by '11 to at least see the 5.0?

I'm dissapointed.

Yep - you covered my feelings...

On balance, a very nice car. Some details, especially the rear, still bother me. But some of the recent clear shots from the back don't look too horrible.

Never yet been a Mustang that didn't have SOME styling cues that didn't please me, so this one is no exception there. Still, I have liked MOST Mustang models and loved many.

I will likely buy one as soon as the finances will allow in order to gain the improvements, and accept the nits as unavoidable. Everyone's tastes differ, so no car is likely to please everyone.

Now I just gotta figure out which options I want (can afford). So many choices...

This one here didn't. I loved everything about the car except the font end. The 4 eyes look just didn't do it for me. It took me a while to get used to it. Even today I wouldn't say I love it, but I do like it. I think it will be the same with the 2010. Some will get used to it and grow to like it. Others however, will never jump on board and thats ok . I still don't care for the look of the II's, and don't think I ever will.

As for my thoughts on the 2010. Well much like to 05-09 I like all but one part, and that is the black on the back. Just a little too much junk in that trunk. I think it is wider to show off the hips (love handles) a little more? If it was painted though it probably would look bigger. Maybe you can just paint the top half and leave the bottom half black ? I can't wait to see what the aftermarket has for back there.

You know I may just have to rethink the black on the back. Most photos are from a sitting down in the floor level. In person standing up it might just look smaller.

lowblustang00 is wishfully thinking.

Opinions are like...well we all know that. Having seen the various 2010's in person I have to say that there is something just not right about the design. It doesn't take my breath away like a Ford GT or a KR. It looks awkward. The 2005 was a clean sheet design homage to the 67-68 and as such it is of one piece - whether or not you agree that the designer achieved his goal. For 2010, Ford had to take that design and modify it. There is no flow to it and the front and back look tacked on. The execution of it though is impressive - makes my '07 look like it was made by American Harvester in comparison.

This seriously for me has NOTHING to do with jelousy and everything to do with to me is just a styling failure by the current team. I love Mustangs and always have. I don't hate the '10 but compared to the '05-'09 its not as visually pleasing. They tried to accomplish something more modern I believe, but as a result I'm left yearning for something more.

It's just like I don't hate the '71-'73 but compared to a '69 or a '70, I don't like them as much.

Same thing here.

One other thing i do not like is the car has to many body lines and they all seem to converge up at the ugly *** end of the car.

And that nasty power antenna is pathetic to say the least.

As I have previously stated I do like the 2010 (and all other Mustang years) but in my opinion the 2010 looks like the Mustang that should have come after the New Edge (99-04) and before the styling of the 2005-2009. Not to say the style looks dated, but the 2010 has more of an "edge" than the 2005-2009. It's sloped nose, slanted taillights, sharper creases, etc.

I will say that the rear looks more like botched up plastic surgery like this:

I see what you're saying, but that is what I really like about the direction they've gone. They are bringing the '05-'09 design language forward without killing it, evolving it the same way SN95 evolved to fit with contemporary styling without giving up it's identity. The '05-'09 was a pack leader in 2005, and while it still looks great it was time to bring the styling forward.

I think it has potential but my biggest gripes are the non painted plastic looking front/rear parts, needs a front spoiler (looks like something is missing with the big lower grill) and my #1 complaint is the GT horsepower of 315hp. Pretty sad when the base Camaro V6 is putting out what the Mustang GT is. I know you can get the supercharged options but a GT should be at least 400hp on the base model. Heck, my wifes Maxima could bust my 07GT auto until I bought a cold air intake and tuner from Brenspeed. I was really hoping for a 5.0 in the Mustang again.

I agree 100%. I too like the styling direction. However, if I were non-Mustang knowledgeable and asked to place in order a 99-04, 05-09, and '10 I may place the '10 between the 04 & 05. I can't wait to see/drive a '10! It is really growing on me . . .

It would be great to see an 05-09 GT next to the 10 just get a side by side comparison.
