Top end
What is the top end on the stock V6?? I have had mine up to 100, was wondering how much more I can push her without hurting her?? What's your top end out there?

LOL.... be GLAD you asked. This is a car where the rev limiter is there for a reason. You have enough power to push that thing into the 140s (?) but the driveshaft WILL break before you get there. Look up the famous Youtube video...you can watch (hear) the failure happen from inside the car at . Scary!!
Swapping out for an aftermarket shaft isn't that difficult but they run $600-$800.

I love all these posts about how your driveshaft WILL break if you go 130 because of ONE youtube video. There a few documented cases of driveshaft failures, usually related to constant abuse or dyno runs. The mass of the dyno wheel when slowing down seems to really stress the drivetrain. There are also many documented instances of cars with multiple runs of 130 on stock driveshafts with no failure. While I agree that if you plan to take your car above the factory speed limiter it would be wise and safe to upgrade your driveshaft I don't believe it is quite the "epidemic" that others would have you believe.

Thanks for all of the great info and knowledge but I would like to hear from the voice of experience. What is the highest top end you have achieved with a stock V6 or a stock GT??? Need For Speed

150 with stock DS but the car is limited to 155, if you have the need to go faster, then the safe responsible thing to do would be get a DS and hoop and remove your limiter.

I can tell you without a doubt that the design of the V6 driveshaft is such that there is enough danger in speeds above the factory limit that it's not worth the risk.
But, to each his own.

I've seen far too many stories about the epidemic of the "exploding" driveshafts, but aside from a couple Youtube videos (one of which really didn't show anything other than a shaking camera - it certainly didn't show any of the aftermath), I haven't heard of anyone on any of these forums have it happen to them (or anyone they know).
It's almost suspicious. Why would someone go through the trouble to shoot and post a video without making sure that they at least have one photo of a broken driveshaft?
Since it's a scary story (really scary), it may just be one of those things people just feel compelled to regurgitate without actually having any first (or second) hand experience.
Come to think of it, (on the forums at least), the only first hand experiences I've read are from posters getting away with multiple high speed runs on the stock DS.
Where are all the photos of all these broken driveshafts and the damage they've caused? Anyone??? Bueller? Bueller?
EDIT: I stand corrected - google it. There's at least one photo (that points to another Mustang forum) that shows at least a broken driveshaft on the shop floor.
Enough proof for me! Play it safe. If you're a speed demon, replace that thing!
