Street Tires

Is there any advantage going with a 275 over a 255 for every day
street use. I will be buying a set of Pilot SS.

It will be harder to break the 275s loose in 2nd gear, or even in 1st over 4000 rpm if you don't jump on the throttle.

False. I broke the MPSS 305s loose like no other. My Cooper RS3s actually seem to hook a little better, all other things equal, even though they're 275s.

Going from a 265/305 staggered MPSS setup to 255/275 Cooper RS3s, I say save your money and go with the Coopers. I'm that impressed with these cheap tires!

I looked hard at the Cooper's, if the Pilots don't work out I might go cheap
the next time.

If you keep the same tire model and go wider they will be more difficult to break. That's just physics. Same load on the wheel and more surface area with the wider tire = more traction.

I went with the 255 pilot ss, they should be better than the GY Supercar tires I have now.

And what I'm saying is, in my experience, depending on temperature, the RS3s have just as much if not more traction than the wider PSS that I had. Now put them on a track with the PSS in their optimal heat range, and obviously the PSS will (most likely) have more grip.

Are you currently exceeding the traction of the tires you have now? Probably not, in normal street use . . . if that is the case, then more extra traction that you don't use or need isn't really going to make any difference.

EDIT: oops, now I see that you went with the 255 PSS tires . . . those are supposed to be awesome tires, interested to hear how they work out for you.

So Far the Pilot SS is a major improvement over the GY Supercar tires. When it rains on Sunday I'll see how good they are in a hydroplaning environment.

+1 to that! The MPSS are not a straight line performance tire. I could break mine loose as well but during the turns it would just stick and plant and hold. Great track day tire, not so much for drag racing though lol.

The PSS has much more grip off the line than the GY SuperCar and the Conti DW. I am very impressed so far.
