I'm also shocked by these claims. To basically take an automatic, leave traction control on, and turn in times pretty much at the same level as highly skilled drivers with a 3.73 axle manual is quite frankly insane. This should bare considerable scrutiny, even if it's found out to be true. I just have a hard time believing that the manual transmission version is having such a hard time keeping up with its automatic transmission counterpart, but this is the 21st century, so who knows?

Ahh ok. Makes sense. Guess it time to see a slip. On C5 it sounds like the guy he ran with was talking about the run. So yeah it seems like its factual. Thread here

MPH in the traps will depend a lot on what the rpm is going through the traps. Close to peak = higher mph. Well below, not so much.

For ET, you want to go through the traps well ABOVE peak HP, but with the stock rev limiter (and the 6500 rpm peak power), that isn't really possible. If it were, MPH will be down a bit vs going through near peak HP (but again, ET will be a bit better).

Suddenly I am not so depressed that I ordered an A6 to make the wife happy. Even my wife should be able to run low 13's in this thing.

Quick note...and please understand that I have no way of validating (or invalidating) the claims made by the person who ran the A6 numbers....an M6 with 3.73s will be hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear at ~111-112 mph, meaning you either have to put it in 5th and thus end up well below peak HP going through the traps, or just sit it on the limiter. This will lower the trap speed quite a bit compared to a car that is closer to peak HP in the mph lights.

I have come around to Gene K's way of thinking....it is the 3.55 cars that I think will show the best ETs, and probably the best MPH too.

In bone stock trim, of course. Once the modding starts, all bets are off.

i won't say it didn't happen but keep in mind that a corvette that has
a. 436hp and 428 lb-ft tq
b. wider, better tires
c. weighs 300lbs less

traps 115-117mph as reported by the same mags that have run times with the new 5.0 that are consistent with privately owned cars

just doesn't add up

LOL - He must be lying.

I would suggest that conclusions should be drawn after we have timeslips from more cars.

Corvette is slow because of torque management.

I thought it was because the drivers tend to be fat old guys.

"Customers choosing the automatic will be pleasantly surprised to find the advanced six-speed transmission does not sacrifice fuel economy or performance – delivering crisp, quick shifts."

Maybe we will be "pleasantly surprised" as Ford says. My 2011 Mustang GT has the 6-speed auto and, although I haven't timed it, it feels extremely quick.

If it had the stock 235 50 18 tires, it's still in third gear at 115 MPH. Third redlines with this combo at around 119 MPH. Probably why it was so quick considering the steepness of 1st thru 3rd.

I believe A6s can only be had with 3.15s. Someone please correct me if that is inaccurate.

5.0 A6 is indeed 3.15 only.

Anyone know if the new A6 locks the converter in 4th at full throttle?
Also might be nice to know the density altitude although mid-70's pretty much precludes 1200 foot below.

Bob, if it was a couple of decades ago I would swear that track had the "old" speed traps.
Before the traps were moved to try and keep the Fuelers below 300 mph.
Surely their are not any unsanctioned tracks still using the old speed traps?

PS I wonder if "Traction Control On" means in Regular or Sport Mode?

This result really doesn't surprise me at all. Considering the gearing at work here and the advanced electronic control of the transmission the automatic cars should be fast.

I will be looking forward to seeing what one will do with the kind of suspension mods that the evo car is running and with some really sticky tires.

In that form, I don't see 12.20's or better being out of the question with no other mods.
