They forgot to mention the 500lbs weight difference. Horsepower is everything.

Unfortuneately for Camero, the real world is not between stop lights, nor on the race course. It's getting to and from work, and hauling the groceries where the Stang is king "fun and cheap to keep", and/or out sells the Chevy's. In the sales world money talks, bullsh*t walks. Now about that bridge you're trying to sell me...

the average buyer does not or will not care about the weight, they look at the top numbers and see the v6 makes as much power as the v8 mustang.

I'll still take the Stang! the camaro will die in about 4 years...again, and lets face it, there's no way you're going to be able to get one close to MSRP for at least a year

That's the 2009 v8 Mustang. The 2010 V8 Mustang is another story.

The 350z and G37 V6s make as much HP as the 2005-2009 V8 Mustangs, but that didn't help their sales.

oh boy...and i can hear it now...

"Since the 2010 mustang wasnt good enough to compete with the Camaro, Ford decided to go with the 5.0/6 speed for 2011 in attempt to keep up...."

^^right

i would dare say that typically the person looking for a mustang would look at the camaro and the challenger. not so much a 350 or infiniti as those are a different car, import, and a different price point:shrug:

The Camaro was the more powerful car, right to the point to where it went on hiatus for six years. I think the Mustang will do just fine.

"the V-6 Camaro puts out the same amount of horsepower as a current V-8 Mustang GT (300 hp)"
"a base V-6 Challenger offers 250 hp for just $2000 more than a similar Mustang"

The Challenger V6 is iffy, but at that range... The insurance on a Camaro V6 and a Mustang GT ought to be exactly the same, right?

If the point of lower performance/hp=college V6 insurance rates... There's no way the Camaro V6 could be purchased by the college folk.

Or... am I missing the point of a V6 in the first place? Besides the obvious CAFE rules, of course.

/stirring... but with a purpose. I intend to understand this silliness re: insurance and V6. I can wrap both a V6 and a V8 around a tree very easily. Just gimme the cars, and I'll show ya.
//well... maybe not. I would want to not be in the hospital, thanks.

I'm still stickin' to my guns and saying that the 5.0 will not be 400hp in the GT like we are hoping. I think it will be 325-350 as this article mentions and 400hp in the Boss. Even then, with the weight advantage it will still give the SS a good run.

I guess they just dont realize that ford doesnt push their engines as hard as everyone else. the potential is certaintly there, but less power=longer lasting engine
If you want the extra power, $1000 will get you that power in aftermarket mods

I wouldn't put too much credence into what Motor Trend has to say. If Ford is going to go through the trouble of engineering a brand-new engine (well, okay, not "brand-new," since it's based off the current modular engine architecture), I'm willing to bet it'll sport more than a 25-50 horsepower improvement over the current mill. Otherwise, why bother? Engineering resources are finite.

Hmm...it's not likely, but if the 2010 comes with 350hp I think I would buy one for that gold color, and not worry about the 2011. 350 crank hp and 3.73s? It would be a decently fun car and would make me think long and hard to not wait for the 2011 5.0 which WILL have a long waiting list and ADMs, not to mention a higher MSRP to start with. They aren't going to give away a pretty much new engine for free. It has been said the 5.0 in the 2011 isn't as related to the 4.6/5.4 as the current engines are. It is a very incremental difference, but knowing that the Shelby GTs and Bullitts had pretty much 315-325hp, that fact alone would deter me away from the 2010. But if the GT can squeeze another 25hp out of the 4.6 3V, I would consider it long and hard..anyone else agree?

I think if ford squeezes 350hp out of a 2010 4.6v setup with the 5-speed and 3.73 gears there wll be a lot of takers!

I can't see them doing anything drastic to the existing engine being that it would only be for a year. That pretty much leaves off the shelf bolt-ons which the Bullitt/Shelby GT already have already shown to be worth about 15hp. I don't think we'll see anymore than that in 2010.
