It appears to me that the tube is drawing air from inside of the car into the intake. Is that true? What is on the inside of the firewall end of the tube? There is a balast or something inline in the tube. Does that keep any real air movement from happening so only the sound from the intke enters the inside of car?

I agree it looks very unneeded and wonder why Ford would go to the expense of adding something that could reduce the cost of the car, even ever so slightly if it really has no other purpose.

Fill me in...
Serves absolutely no purpose other than to bring a little engine noise into cabin. Zero issues if you want to remove.

"Why don’t the auto manufacturers incorporate something similar? Cost and the added maintenance was deemed something that would NOT be accepted by the general market (even though it is as simple as draining the can at each oil change).

Bottom line is this: The OEM system does a great job of meeting emission standards and removing the harmful contaminants, but the unintended consequences are the oil that is drawn into the intake charge. For an engine to produce the maximum amount of energy per explosion (of the A/F in the combustion chamber) you want air & fuel only….any amount of oil in this mix will hamper the explosion resulting in less energy released, detonation, and carbon buildup. Trapping and removing this oil before it gets into the combustion chamber is the ONLY solution to maintaining the maximum efficiency and prevent excess carbon buildup. A correctly designed and installed Oil Catch Can solves this problem."

The defense rests.
Oh yeah... that site wouldn't have any reason to be biased.

Lemme guess, this is biased also and the pictures were fabricated.

It certainly won't hurt anything and it will probably keep the intake a little cleaner. But I have had cars approaching 200,000 miles that never had a problem due to oil in the intake so I'll keep my money for other things.

The most reasoned comment in that first thread was:
Running a catch can??? Good for you.

Not running a catch can?? You probably saved $100 or more and unless you have a highly modded engine you're not hurting a thing.

I'm not telling everyone they have to run a catch can (oil seperator).
I just find it amusing that so many people are so detail oriented on their mustangs outside but don't care about the inside of the motor.

However back on the topic at hand!
I used parts around my garage today to remove my sound tube and block it off!

I like the out side and inside of my motor looking nice!

Sound tube delete

I finally did the sound tube delete on my car. I had never planned on doing this mod. I had read that if your have axel backs that you won't be able to tell the difference in sound. I ended up doing the delete when I put in the redline hood struts. The tube didn't remount cleanly so the delete happened. I was surprised how much quieter my cabin is. There was a weird sound at high rpm that made me worry about running my engine hard. I've realized that it was the sound tube noise. Lol, this might make my car too fast. I thrash it harder now because it sounds so smooth.

Cool Tech sells a kit with firewall plug, intake cap and clamp. $12 with 2 shipping. Definitely cleans up engine bay

To whom it may concern: I installed a sound tube delete kit last night on the Mustang and it did absolutely NOTHING to reduce cabin noise. Do not expect the car to be quieter after installing this. This is purely a cosmetic mod.

Agreed. I heard no difference, but the top down is most of the time so wind noise and my exhaust sounds fill the interior. I display my engine at shows, so it paid to get rid of the clutter.

Yeah I saw some posts where people said it may have reduced the cabin noise or they weren't sure if it did...I figured I'd take a gamble and get the kit. I didn't notice any difference, even during hard acceleration.

I think those Eibach springs are much better.....
The Eibachs are no good...the Roush Axle Backs are better than the Eibachs or the catch can.

Your results are not typical. On our 5.0 I always noticed a weird, unnatural, harmonic resonance. It was even more pronounced with the addition of the Magnaflow axle backs at around 2000 rpm on the highway. Getting rid of the sound tube got rid of this weird resonance as well as reducing cabin noise.
I can now hear the exhaust tone the way it was meant to sound.
I have several friends that have had the same experience as me.

I agree with the above. It wasn't really quieter it just removed a weird unnatural reverberation from the interior. I used to think the engine was straining at higher rpm. I now realize it was the sound tube.

Thanks for the pics! Looks like that worked like a charm. I am very impatient and ordered the kit from Blowfish :/

That sound tube hole in the firewall is very convenient to have if you need to run wiring through the firewall.

How do you keep your engine bay so clean ?
