Sound tube delete

I searched in several home improvement stores for the tube cap to replace the sound tube connection at the intake. Finally gave up and bought the $10.99 kit from Blowfish Racing.

Wow! Much more "composed" on the interior now.....I didn't realize how much extra noise the tube brought into the cabin.

yeah, I used to be into really loud cars when I was a teenager, but now I prefer quiet, especially on the highway. If this makes the interior more quiet, I will do this ASAP!

When we talk about noise the sound tube brings in are we saying just engine noise or road noise as well?

Personally I like hearing the grumble of the motor in the cabin.

It does - I had my first extended commute this morning and I could definitely tell a difference. I hammered it pretty hard on an on-ramp, and while the 5.0 sounds good as always, it was missing that obnoxious, raspy noise from the intake.

The majority of the noise now comes from my GT500 axlebacks....which, while not the loudest out there, are good enough for me.

Plus, we all know that SGM Mustangs are the best, right?

It's hard to describe what's different. When I really get on the throttle, the engine is "still there".....it's just a more composed roar instead of the loud, raspy noise coming through the firewall.

Mine is a DD so I have no interest, for now, in a straight pipe beast that becomes annoying after 10 miles. In a few years? Who knows....

I never noticed a difference one way or another. I removed mine because it's the law here on this forum. I didn't want to get banned.

I installed mine last week and noticed how quiet it is now in the interior. Strange how a tube can make that much of a difference. More important is how clean the engine bay looks now.

Man I gotta get this done! Wonder why the tube is there in the first place. SGMustangs FTW!

I did this last week as well. Not huge difference in sound,a little quieter. Definitely cleans up the engine bay though.

Cleans up the engine bay so you can install a useless oil catch can ?

Jesse, I'm not sure what you think "oil catch cans" have to do with the comments I made about a sound tube delete, but my jlt catches oil and is not useless in my opinion. I'm well aware that the jlt is unpopular with many on this site. There are many choices, so if you'd prefer something else, then go for it.

Funny thing is. I decided to ditch the catch can. After two weeks it had caught maybe a tablespoon, but the bigger issue is while I was data-logging, the A/F ratio was running lean at WOT.. If you are going to run a catch can, make sure it's not causing you to run lean.

Now that it's off, no more lean condition.
