That was an April fools joke and you probably work longer in 4 days than I do in 5...in fact I guarantee it.

The harsh reality is the MT-82 is a huge change from what most prior mustang owners had coming from the 3650 or T56. I put over 100K on my 2001 Bullitt with 95K being on a Steeda Tri-Ax and Redline Fluid. The design of the TriAx had "centering" springs and stops to allow aggressive shifting with out missing the critical 2nd to 3rd hit. Upon getting my 2012, I found the MT-82 need a lot of finesse to find the gates. I was getting locked out of third all the time. After 500 miles I installed an SR Shifter and Steeda Bracket. Made a significant improvement, but still got the odd lockout under aggressive driving. I finally installed the MGW, and after putting 2500 miles on it have come to the realization that it should have been the first and only mod for my driving style. Selling my Steeda Bracket and SR shifter now. If you do not plan on racing or open tracking, get a bracket. Will make a huge difference in missed shifts. The Barton two post would be a good choice as a stand alone. If you plan on racing, get the MGW.

OP -

search the forums and you will see - mt-82 is a unique - fairly often criticized transmission.

i have 12,300 miles on my 13 - speed shifting is NOT what this transmission can do stock. when you baby it "a little" you get a lot more outta it.

I agree with Joe - MGW is the way to go and at 15k miles I'm doing a fluid swap with the MGW shifter. I'm not happy with the way it shifts, but I've been able to adapt. Either swap it out now, or figure it out. If you are having true issues, take it to your dealer and see what they say.

I must be fairly unique in this, but I can row the **** out of the stock shifter. The only mod I have on it is the Barton **** and adaptor. 1-2-3-4 are a breeze at 7k. I let the centering springs do the work from 2-3. I haven't made a pass yet, so I don't know if I'm going to need 5th.

Your not the only one, I think some people are just used to a certain style of shifting and so when the trans doesn't allow it/work well with that style then the trans is bad. I read into all of the hype of the trans being garbage and started thinking that it was until I actually started trying to learn how the trans needed to be shifted, now I have no issues.

To the OP, you'll just have to accept that this shifter is horrible. The reality is that this is an "ok" transmission for cruising but just flat out sucks for any performance driving. You'll need to get the bracket and aftermarket shifter to make it halfway ok for performance driving. I race my cars too and got so ticked off at this transmission even after replacing the shifter, that I went out and bought a used GT A/T for my racing now. This transmission can't be raced with any hint of consistency. It just has way too many strange quirks.
