Sedan and Wagon Mustangs? WTF?

I think it would be great to use this platform to build a smaller, tight-handling RWD 4-door (a North American brother to the australian Falcon). Throw an IRS and a few extra doors and give it to lincoln or Mercury. But calling it a Mustang would be like AC/DC putting out a pop album and touring with Backstreet boys to reach a larger audience.
Kinda like the Kiss Disco album?

It would be fine if this rear wheel drive (presumably) sedan was actually sold as a Falcon. But to water the Mustang brand down with a sedan version and a freakin' wagon version too no less!? It makes me want to trade my GT in for something else before those atrocities actually hit the market.
I, for one, am so sick of "vanilla" sedans. They all look alike. At least this is different, in a good way.

even if they added two extra doors and switched the name to mustang, it would still be too much. can you imagine a wagon with an SN95 front end. people would still recognize it as a mustang

This is Jeff Greenly from Yocum Ford. We emailed about a year ago, when I asked (jokingly) about getting my 06 Mustang GT I had ordered painted Dark Highland Green. Vista Blue is fantastic, and the car LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!! I’ll have to send you a picture of it, with the painted stripes, ducktail and all. Anyhow, I have read, as many have, in the recent Autoweek article, about the future new redesigned Mustang for 2010/2011. The article says that your bosses are looking at making a sedan and a wagon (!) and calling it a Mustang!! Please don’t take this the wrong way, but what are they drinking? Please, I beg of you, to tell Kuzak, Fields, and Mulally, to not do this!!! This will destroy the 43 year history of this car. A car that is not only a piece of American automotive history, but an American icon. I belong to several Mustang clubs, and I have already had people contact me in regards to the articles that have surfaced on the net. Many automotive online forum members are posting away how this is the worst idea possible. Ford tried to kill the Mustang before, with the Probe back in 1993, but had hundreds of thousands of letters telling them not to do this. I can believe the same will be coming. If you want to come out with a rear wheel drive vehicle, that is fantastic, but DO NOT call it a Mustang. All this will do is cheapen the brand, make the cars less valuable, and make the term Mustang a “joke”. I can already hear it 5 years from now: Friend A, “I just got a new Mustang!”
Friend B; “you mean you got a sissy wagon?” Not the conversation I want to hear? I know this idea was high up in the ladder, but I know you have some input, as does HTT. I think I speak for everyone who loves these cars, to say it. Keep the Mustang a 2-door Muscle car, its what it was meant to be. Thanks for listing Jim. Hope to hear back from you.

I believe that if Ford really goes ahead with this assignment then it is putting down the over 40 years history of the pony legend and show no respect to its fans that have been crazy about them for years. if that happens i would personally might as well go buy a camero or something that is still respected buy its creator.
