First couple of times I drove the car I had collared shirts on, so I didn't notice it. But the first time I wore a t-shirt, I was like what the hell?!?!?! I'm 5'11, and it cuts right me right in the neck.

For me, it wasn't so much the neck digging but the pressure. Never been in another car with such a seat belt. This is the cure.

(Note: I don't think it should be as loose as the one on the woman pictured).

I am not kidding, I don't think I would have kept my car without this thing.

But don't you have to adjust this every time you get in the car? Or does the belt just not fully retract when you unbuckle?

That is exactly what I do to prevent the belt from digging into my neck, I have to wear a collard shirt for work and almost always wear one any other time, so I just tuck the belt under my collar and its all good.

Great so i guess we'll just have to wear collard shirts even when it's 100 degrees outside.

If I had a vagina I might consider that purchase. For now, I'll stick with the discomfort.

Either way. I have learned to adjust it each time. A bit of a pain at first but it's well worth it.

You are a vagina....so it should work great!

Seriously though the idea is sound. On distances
I keep a small pillow in the car for this. It pulls it off the top of your shoulder.

In 2008 Ford added a plastic extender onto the top belt pillar post latch to help with this.
In order to get it you have to buy the whole seatbelt assembly.

From what Ive heard it really didnt solve the problem.

If you have the problem of the belt cutting across your neck, go to your Ford dealer's parts counter and ask for a "seat belt extender" (as suggested in a post above). They are free, and in very many cases will completely solve this problem for you. It's a little extension that plugs into the buckle (but moves the shoulder harness a bit outboard).

That will put the seatbelt across your mid upper arm unless your huge.
They are also not safe for normal people as it alters the belt location across your body.
They are designed for very obese people.

The issue is that there is no belt harness on the seat or a mechanism in place that allows you to relieve the tension on the belt/shoulder.

One guy on one forum made a piece that fit over the headrest post and it held the belt
to relieve the tension across the shoulder. Ill see if I can find it again. Its been awhile since Ive seen it.

my '10 has that thingy pictured above but my wife still complains . . . maybe she just needs to learn to rotate that arm downward so it moves the belt downward onto her shoulder instead of it riding high on her neck . . . we'll have to give that a try next time

(what can I say, she is a woman, sometimes she'd rather complain than solve the problem )

Any of you complaining ever own or drive a '94-98 ??

They had a belt guide on the seat, but the retractor pre-tension was just waaaay too much. I had something similar to what Wienerdog mentioned, but it was a pain to get in the right position. I ended up using a small black/yellow QuickGrip Spring Clamp that would lodge itself into the belt guide on the seat and this was the answer.

On my '04, the seat belt arrangement was exactly the same as the '94-98 ... but they must have re-designed the retractor at some point between '98 & '04 so it had far less pre-tension to where it did not bother me and longer needed my Spring Clamp.

Rented an '05 when they were new and don't remember if the seat belt anoyed me or not.

I drive 2-1/2 hrs twice each week and I have no issue whatsoever with the 2011 seat belt in a t-shirt or what ever I'm wearing ... I think the "Presenter Arm" that Ford added to the '08-up Mustangs mentioned in post #34 helps a bit too (I'm 5'10" 150 lbs). Swinging it down just may help if you are shorter though.

Same with the silly forward leaning headrests that a lot of people absolutely hate ... I just messed around with the seat tilt and seat back adjustments until I found a comfortable position where it no longer bothered me.

You're right, they don't do much to relieve tension on the shoulders. Maybe Ford should've had a belt fabric option. Tan flannel, or maybe leather wrapped.

Welcome to the forums!

That's called a seat belt presenter. Sometimes called 'extender', but that's really a different part. 'Holder' too, but again, different part. It's really just part of the seat belt assembly. Those aren't exactly common, and left side less so. I've found plenty of right side belts with it on ebay, but no left ones... You might need to check with a dealer on that. Or maybe take it apart and see if you can fix it, unless it's that kind of broken. Might also go salvage yard diving, maybe you'll find one there. Maybe someone in the know for this kind of thing will happen along, but...

Hope that helps anyway! Good luck!
