Remembering why I love my Stang

I've own 4 mustangs, a 69' coupe, 06 GT Vert, 07 GT and 12 GT/CS. Since I was a child it's been my favorite car. Overtime I kinda find myself wanting something else when I own one for awhile. Okay now present time...I went out to the garage to take my plates out of my Boss side pipes and decided to go for a ride. So I pack the kids in the car and go for a ride. It's been awhile since I had the plates out so I had an instant smile on my face going down the street.

Were rolling down the street and out of nowhere I hear a car downshift...yep it's a Shelby. Even though I don't race on the streets a little straight line acceleration wouldn't hurt So from about 45 to 70ish I give him all the little 5.0 has and besides the kids are in the car. He kept going to what seem like 90ish as he flew by. My boys went crazy! They were all like dad you should get that car! I looked at them and said it was fast huh? lol. I catch up to him and told him the kids love your car. He starts laughing. As were rolling home the sun is setting. That perfect mixture of dark clouds with the dimly glowing sun, wind blowing with the windows down, side pipes perfectly rumbling at 1800 rpm and i'm thinking this is exactly why I love mustangs. No other cars outside of american muscle can give you that feeling.

Kinda long winded but if you have a similar story I would love to hear...why you feel in love with your stang...

Very cool story. I still remember the. First Tim I didn't take my car when driving my 6 year old to school. He was complaining and asking why we weren't taking my "super fast Mustang"the whole ride.

Had people tell me they have felt like a movie star riding in it...

A friend of my wife told me the exhaust sounded like a "brutally wild, dangerous animal"...

Camaros disappear into my rear view mirror when I downshift...

Had one guy tell me that if Dale Earnhardt had driven a Ford, it would have been exactly like mine...

The biggest reason, for me, is because every time I get in and start the engine, everything else just goes away. I've had it for seven months now and it is still the highlight of every day I drive it.

Awesome story! I have a same feeling everything I drive my Mustang.

It sounds like your boys are going to own some Mustangs when its their time as well, that's really awesome and you should be proud lol!

I once was a little kid like that, it was 1971 and i was in my uncle's 1967 Chevelle SS396 with side pipes with my brother and cousins. Great times - much simpler

I'll be old and senile one day but never forget that ride. Rest in peace Uncle Phil.
Thanks for triggering that memory and it's one your kids will never forget.

My parents had a '68 Mustang, that I inherited when I was old enough. Sadly, it was neglected quite a bit and by the time I got it, it needed a lot of work and I didn't have the money or the time to do a lot and finally had to get rid of it a few years after getting it. I was Mustang-less for a few years and then got into an '01, then '05, then '06 and now '13... My '06 was and now '13 is pretty much a garage car, that I don't drive that often... Sometimes, I get that feeling of 'why am I paying for a car I rarely drive?' Then, I go for a ride and it reminds me why I keep it! All of them have brought a smile to my face at one point or another...

Once my kids are men one can only hope they remember these times. My old man had a 1963 Buick Wildcat when I was younger and i'll never forget that car. Everytime I hear a big block, lopey cam, smell of fuel it reminds me of hanging out with my dad listening to him and his friends talk about cars. Even now when I go home the first thing I do is show him something new on my car, talk about our future car plans and cars in general.
