Pay for Oil Change
#21
I've never paid for one on this car (DIY) but when you consider 8 quarts of oil @ $4-5 each, there's $40. A decent filter is $8-10 so there's 50. And 15 minutes of a mechanic who gets billed at $100/hour like most shops is $25, so that's $75. Doesn't seem that unreasonable to me, considering I generally pay $65 for Castrol full synthetic oil and a K&N oil filter to do it myself.
I had my oil changed at my car dealership once and I waited over 2 1/2 hours for it. That didnt include the 40 minute trip there and back home. F that.
Goodyear has oil change specials they run for 30 dollars but its only for up to 5 quarts and its regular oil.

Wow, seeing these prices thrown around makes me feel good about Don Davis Ford where I bought mine. Oil and filter change for my GT with my weight choice of Motorcraft syn blend - $32.

Oil changes could be free and I still wouldn't do it. I have little faith in others doing the work properly...I'd end up jacking it up again and checking the plug torque and immediately checking oil level and what filter they use...
Plus I like being under cars. It's relaxing. It's a nice break from being covered in plastic dust from my day job.

I don't trust anyone - especially the dealer. I have no good experiences with them.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm going to take my car to my friend's place that has a driveway and change it myself next time. I'll only go back to the dealer for a warranty issue if any.

There is a hand car wash attached to a Quick Change right near my favorite breakfast restaurant. I drive the car in and 5 minutes later oil change is done. Easy Peasy! I take in the wife's 2013 Edge Limited as well. They are quite careful to check everything and I've never had a problem. That said, 8 quarts of mobile 1 isn't cheap at this joint.
After that, I drop it off for a loving hand car wash and go next door for some oatmeal and coffee. It's a nice little morning. 4 times per year I go for a wax with one of those a full polish job. So convienent and they do a better job than I would.

Hate to make a complaint thread, but took the GT to get the first oil change at 4500. Surprise surprise, ended up paying for it. My last 2 cars were new, as is my wife's 2013 Beetle and we never had to pay for an oil change while under warranty. I think that free oil changes should come with the purchase of a 40k car. I know many people change their own oil, but because of where I live I am unable to do this. Love my car and this is just a minor irritation.

Price tag for oil change, tire rotation at All American Ford in Old Bridge NJ was just shy of $80. I was like what the...?? This is where I bought the vehicle. I won't be going there again as I was clearly ripped off. Nice customer service and great way to show that you value your customers.
Go to the Ford Owners web site. Under coupons/rebates you will find "The Work" package coupon. It's Oil, filter, rotation, multi-point inspection for $39.95. Print it off, and take it to the service folks.
For all you guys who pay for oil changes, how do the lifts treat the sideskirts of the car??? I have a 2013. The only lifting points are the bottom of the side skirts, unless you use a jack insert. Does it mar or scrape them up? Can the plastic withstand the weight? I know some lifts have rubber pads, but they are grungy
Clevor, my dealers uses the ramp lift.

i dont like anybody changing my oil except for me. i understand that some people cant change their oil because of time and/or where they live but after i took a 2 week oil class i will buy my own oil and my own filter and do it myself.

It took you two weeks in class to learn how too change your oil and filter. Dang! I just watched some 15 minute you tube video and called it a day. Lol.

haha nah it was the different additives that go into oil, oil life, all that it does, and that type of stuff. it got really in depth about it and we spent about a whole day on how the oil that a oil change place uses and the oil that you buy is completely different even if its got the exact same name and brand. about every oil change place uses recycled oil btw. especially the express lube type places.

it really depends. a lot of local places have to use different stuff to compete with the express lube type business. its not that that oil at express lube type places will hurt your engine or anything but i just dont like recycled oil. they take the used oil that comes out of cars and refine it and remove and replace the additives and repackage it. a lot of the cheap and generic brand oil you buy at auto parts stores is recycled oil too.
