Overspray on glass?

Today while driving into the sun I noticed the windshield, windows, and side view mirrors seem to have overspray on them. Looks like they were sandblasted.

I washed the car last night, so I know it wasn't anything on them. I also wiped part of the windshield down and that didn't remove anything.

Is anyone else seeing this? Is this some characteristic of the glass Ford uses?

I'll try a claybar tonight to see if that removes anything.

Did it turn out to be overspray?

Yes it is overspray. Try waxing the windshield with some Nu Finish as this took it off my windows.

Thanks.

I sent an email to the dealer just so its on record.

I am going to try a claybar, if it doesn't help I'll try lacquer thinner, and if that doesn't help some really fine steel wool (#0000) with a lubricant

It cant be overspray from the factory.

Where was the car parked at the dealer? Near your work?

The car is painted when its a bare shell. the glass doesnt get installed until final which is in another area of the plant all together.

I wouldn't chance using 0000 steel wool on your glass. If you're unsatisfied with the lacquer thinner or the clay bar, I'd buy some glass polish from your local auto parts place. It really cleans the glass well and won't scratch it. If you have overspray on the glass, it is on the paint too, so you'll have to clay the rest of the car as well.

It's probably rail dust or something similar. Just wash your car then clay bar it.

Lacquer thinner seems to do the trick. Tested a few spots at lunch and it is coming off. In the right light you can see the overspray reflecting in the sun.

Before I bought the car it was in the dealer's paint shop getting a few marks getting taken care of. I'm guessing that is where it originated.

I'll try to take some but it may be hard to show the overspray without a really nice camera.

If you have this issue, it is hard to miss. When heading into the sun in the morning or late evening, you can tell something is on the window. Like someone misted your windshield with something. Or like you have dust all over your windshield.

When you clay bar the paint, you'll be able to see what color comes off on the bar. You definately picked up the overspray in the dealer's shop. I had a 99 T/A painted in a show finish and had to take it back into the shop for something. When I got home I noticed it had gray overspray on it. I took it back and the shop insisted they didn't get the overspray on the car, but would remove it for me. I was thinnking you've got to be kidding....where else would I pick up gray primer overspray on my car? This was before clay bars were on the market, so it had to be buffed off. Glad its coming off easy.

I would simply use lighter fluid, does wonder removing all kinds of stains on anything without scratching. Better than lacker thinner in my book.
