not a race or kill thread, but does this happen to you?
I haven't had anybody seriously want to go but I won't street race my 5.0 anyway. See a lot of cut down Hondas and the like, little fart cannons, and I'm scared to death of racing them on the street because if they (or somebody else) get hurt my house is gone. It's not the law it's the lawsuits that worry me. Just not worth it, besides, they don't stand a chance anyways.
Happens to me all the time too, in my 03 GT, not in my 00 V6. I think the people who clearly know they'd lose, just want to entice us to rev it up so they can hear our exhaust and live vicariously through us...esp the guy in the Taurus wagon. Maybe he used to have a Mustang and then his wife made him get rid of it because baby?

I think many of them, like the guy in the Taurus, just want to see and hear the pony go for a little run . . . why not make their day and give them a little show every now and then? There is no "acceleration limit" and if you keep it reasonable it really isn't all that dangerous.
For myself, here in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the opportunities are few and far between, in three years it hasn't happened to me yet . . . kinda disappointing actually . . .

It's funny. I used to get it all the time in my '10 GT. Never happened once in my '13 Shelby.
Maybe that's why some people stick snake badges on their not-snake cars. They're not posers, they just want a little peace.

Now, when I get a chance in the next year to slap on a Roush SC then I may add some Roush badge work in the grill and or on the bumper.

I have had my GT/CS for almost a year now and have only had two cars try and race me. First was a 11 or 12 5.0 and the second was a C6 Z06. The 5.0 was some young kid who was being wreckless and giving us 5.0 owners a bad image. The Z06 on the other hand was trying his hardest to bait me into racing him. As much as I wanted to see what my car had I backed off and rolled my windows up and ignored him. I do make monthly trips to the local drag strip where I beat up some Mopars and Chevys. That helps to keep me from making a bad choice on public roads.
I drive early in the morning to avoid the downtown traffic when I have to commute from Central Florida to Tampa. About 5:00 AM, I get the early morning youngsters going in to Wally world (the Disney attractions) for their early morning work hours.
Yep, they try to egg me on. I'll guess it's the bright red color, or the GT500 rear spoiler I have, or the fact they are just idiots looking to raise their insurance rates that mom and dad are paying for.
I let them go on their way. I figure I saved a life that day; mine.

The 02 GT vert, the 11 GT/CS, or the 00 Lightning....it is funny watching the idiots try to push me. Every once in a while though, this old man has to show them I can embarrass them.

I do that with the horse and buggies around here!
