No 5.0 ?

I found this post on another board by MustangJon255

"I didn't bother reading most of this because I already know all the released info thanks to a member of our local Mustang club whose actually INVOLVED in the build.

They are releasing 2 V6 models as well as 2 V8 models.
One V6 will be a basic low-horsepower model
Where as the other will be a twin-turbo model, numbers arent gonna be past 300 or so...

The base V8 will be the CURRENT 4.6L at 350HP- minimum.
The other V8 will be the 6.2L Hurricane Motor, which is Direct-injection, over-head cam design.

There will NOT be a 5.0L model. No Boss remake, or Mach 1- as of now.

Car will not be a step back like the stang of the 70's- so they say now.

You guys have to realize that Ford is gonna have fun with this car because the new law requires a FLEET average of 34mpg...so there can be a few that arent that efficient...one such car will be the mustang, which is their flagship. They're not gonna nerf it at this point."

Interesting. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Including here.

99% of the fairly reliable sources say we WILL see the 5.0L and we WON'T see the 6.2L, so forgive me if I don't kick them to the curb just because this new guy says he's got the real goods. This in fact may have been the plan at one point, but not now. We'll see.

Werd. Things may have changed but not this much. The 6.2L was scrapped for Mustang duty a loooong time ago. We wont see any variant of that engine under the hood of a Mustang unless it's a very limited run special edition like a GT500KR or Cobra R....and likely not even then.

If it was 2 years ago..I would say yes.

But NO WAY you will see the BOSS 6.2L in the mustang.

The 5.0 4v WILL blow that out of the water.
And yes, its in the Mustang

Read his last paragraph there. A Ford diesel with 700hp / 800 lb-ft of torque and a 6-foot long 6-speed automatic? I wouldn't be too worried with what this guy's saying.

I think he was referring to the upcoming Ford in-house designed and built 6.7L diesel. After re-reading it, though, it looks as though he may have meant that the engine has the potential to produce 700 hp / 800 lb-ft of torque with the stock components (which isn't really anything special; the current crop of diesels are capable of that and then-some).

V6 probably 3.7...yes...
EcoBoost 3.5... maybe...probably on hold as rumoured (and I'll say is probably more expensive than the 5.0)
5.0 4v GT 400hp in 2011+

In the future, there will still be a v8 for the GT.
I don't see that going away.
Especially with the new 5.0 and its potential (HP and MPG)

I wouldn't believe anyone saying the 6.2 is going in the stang.
Its too big/heavy/thirsty of an engine when they can use the 5.0 which has a LOT going for it.

Absolutely. As far as the Mustang goes the 6.2L is dead. I personally don't think it is inconceivable that a Hurricane based, high performance engine could appear at some point. But given the vast amount of misinformation floating around it is more important right now to reinforce the truths as you have already stated which include....

a: There are no plans to put a Hurricane of any sort into any Mustang at the moment.

b: The 5.0L is the volume, hi-po V8 of the future.

Amen.

Even if it isn't more expensive I would think it has to be very close in terms of price. That would indeed some to make it pretty pointless with the 5.0L already coming, which likely explains the production hold. An interesting aside, Ford insider Old Wizard has stated that the Lincoln's version of the 3.5L EB might be the only EB motor in the entire Ford lineup to use twin turbos. The reason? One turbo costs less than two. And as he was in engine development that makes this worth a closer look IMHO. Still, I stand by my guess that costs can't be that far removed even if the rwd 3.5L is a one turbo setup.

I wouldn't believe anyone saying the 6.2 is going in the stang.

Again, I'm with you. A 6.2L powered Mustang GT would likely be slower than the 5.0L powered car is going to be, and the 6.2L would absolutely suffer in terms of weight, balance, and handling. That is all I need to know.
