I am getting on average 11.1 MPG on my car driving conservatively. And just to do a test i reset my fuel economy and i did perfect driving for a whole tank of gas. Never shifted over 3k rpms. I did what book said 1st to 2nd 17mph 2nd to 3rd 25 mph 3rd to 4th 35 4th to 5th 40 mph. Something along those lines and i am still getting only 11 mpg.

I have mustang from 3.73 gears manual. Should I be getting more?
That's not right. Even with some "spirited" driving and some lazy shifting (e.g.g saying in 4th @ 40MPH cruise) I've been getting 18+ average on the GTP

Just curious...you guys already past the break-in period..

Have you tried cruising at 75mph(120kmh) or close to it, while on cruise-control, and reseting the fuel ecomony gauge during your cruise.
Basically to get an instant reading? (avg out over only 1min)

That's pretty much my normal cruising speed, relaxed driving.
In my 2007 I'd see around 28mpg(10 L/100k)
My 2013 is still breaking in (Odo 100miles) , so can't really get good reading yet.

In that scenario, I've gotten 28-29. Overall averaging 21.5 over almost 20,000 miles of ownership. Very happy with this car's fuel efficiency.

My mpg since new (2500 miles) is 18.56, mostly city and suburban driving. Axle is 3.31 and 19" summer only tires. Gas, 87 oct (10% ethanol).

Did a little test this morning to get an indication of what kind of mileage this 5.0 motor is capable of. Filled up, got on the interstate and set curise at 65. Hoped to get the EPA mileage of 26. Result was 29.7 mpg. Not bad for a 3600 lb. car with a 402 hp motor. As a comparison, my 4 cyl Honda Accord gets 33.5 mpg over the same course.

Not bad. Compariable to my 2007.
So far it looks like my 2013 will burn about the same. We'll see after breaking it in.

Still makes you wonder how Ford came up with EPA numbers like 36mpg highway and 21mpg city.

Real world numbers seem to be more like 23mpg highway and 14mpg city.

Personally in mixed driving right now...I'm seeing 14-15mpg
In comparison my 2007 was getting 20mpg.

After I put on 10K, should be a better test.

I don't know. The EPA window sticker numbers on my 2012 GT are 17 mpg City and 26 mpg Highway.

EPA window stickers are silly anyway. Nothing more than a very generalized guide to compare one vehicle over another.

I've often wondered what course they test on that's downhill, with the wind, both directions

Every car I've ever owned has gotten mileage very close to the EPA numbers. They serve a purpose: without their tests, the manufacturers could make up whatever numbers they wanted.

Now this is completely messed up.
It seems that some how the Canadian GTs have way better fuel economy.

USA Spec 2013 GT Manual
15 mpg City
26 mpg hwy
19 combined

CDN Spec 2013 GT Manual
21 mpg City
36 mpg hwy
NA combined (but we can assume avg between the 2)

W T F! Seriously...that is a HUGE difference!!!!

Sorry but Transport Canada must have very loose standards or dreaming some fantasy. I could not see those numbers coming to fruition on the road.

The EPA numbers are the real deal.
And more inline of what I am seeing.

And just because you are shifting at low RPM's doesn't always mean you are going to get better gas mileage. Maging the engine lug around in 4-5-6 gears trying to get upto speed will kill your MPG's also. Just drive it until you get around 1500 miles or so. THat seemed to be the magic number for my car. I have a 2012 GT with the 3.31 gears and i get around 26-27 at 75 mph on flat roads

I just got 23.5 mpg on my last full tank in my 2012 V6 performance package, I calculated it myself and found it to be within a few tenths of the on-board computer. I've got 1400 miles now.

Something sounds wrong with your car, I have averaged as high as 28.3 miles on the highway at 65-70 miles per hour, and about 20 in the city, I get about 365 miles to a tank of gas.

2011 GT 400A, performance white, saddle leather interior, GT500 axle backs, Airaid CAI, panhard bar, 30% tint, side window louvers, front clear body armor.

Cannon Baller hate to bust your bubble but the Canadina cars are measured in Killometers per Liter, not miles per gallon. If you convert them from metric to english they would be ruffly the same.

ok I'll clarify.

In Canada we use liters/100km therefore that value would be even less in the MPG conversion. Since the converstion is in itself a flip-flop.

And we use the the British Gallon(also on the window sticker), so in this way the numbers will be slightly different from the US Gallon.

CDN Spec 2013 GT Manual
21 mpg City (13.4L/100km) = 17mpg(US gallon)
36 mpg hwy (7.8L/100km) = 30 mpg(US gallon)

USA Spec 2013 GT Manual
15 mpg City (15.7L/100km)
26 mpg hwy (9.1L/100km)

So you can see Industry Canada and EPA numbers are still off by serveral points. And we seem to have more lax standards.
EPA are real world.
