Is my MPG normal?

I didn't buy this car to get good fuel economy however, i just want to make sure nothing is wrong.

I am getting on average 11.1 MPG on my car driving conservatively. And just to do a test i reset my fuel economy and i did perfect driving for a whole tank of gas. Never shifted over 3k rpms. I did what book said 1st to 2nd 17mph 2nd to 3rd 25 mph 3rd to 4th 35 4th to 5th 40 mph. Something along those lines and i am still getting only 11 mpg.

I have mustang from 3.73 gears manual. Should I be getting more?

Something is way wrong. Is that what it shows on the car or are you figuring out yourself?

Try doing it yourself and see what your results are. If your result are 11 as well then something is very wrong.

Fill your tank, reset your tripometer, drive close to a full tank and fill up again. Divide the miles on the trip by the gallons you fill up (don't top off)

something's way wrong. reset your trip gauge when you fill up then calculate yourself.
i tried to see how low i could get the mileage on a tank once by driving like a stole it and didn't go below 15.. usually 17-18 all street

I average (hand calculated) 20.4 around town on conservative driving.

I went to Atlanta and averaged 24.2 round trip..... I have the 3.73 gears as well

I've got 3.55 gears and get about 16 MPG, mostly from city driving, but 11 sounds far too low.

11 does sound low for conservative driving. I have the 3.55 gears and my last couple tanks city driving were 17.5 and 18.5, with a little spirited driving. I had a 19.9mpg on 'conservative' tank in town.

I use the Trip A computer for the milage and calculate by hand to figure my mpg. I think the ave mpg in the Trip is close but usually off some from my hand calculation.

Let us know.

One question, how many miles on the car? Not really sure what would cause that without warning lights coming on.

How many miles are you getting to a tank? I'm sure that could help steer him in the right direction. Someone around here has to keep up with how many miles that can go on one tank.

I've gotten as low as 13 on a tank with a lot of city stoplight to stoplight driving.....and no conservative shifting so 11 seems low if you are shifting conservatively.

Something is wrong. My stock 12 GT 6MT Vert has 4,200 miles and gas mileage keeps improving. In mixed driving I get low 20s and have gotten as high as 25. I check the computer and do the math each time I fill the tank. I have found my MPG gauge to be dead on accurate.

Even with conservative driving, if you spend a lot of time in slow traffic and at stop lights, 11 mpg could be "normal". If you spend most of it actually moving, and especially if you are moving mostly above 40 miles per hour, I'd say that 11 mpg is abnormally low.
