wow! that white car got hit pretty good. I would of made them total it. Damage like that I would never except back.

Remember you have to sign off on the car before to take it back.

Just got off the phone with the adjuster and they said for it to be considered "totaled" the damage would have to total to 75% of the car's worth. That's a lot of money...I'm not sure if they can find $20,000 worth of damage, but then again it's a body shop and they are expensive.

Will insurance reimburse you for aftermaket/upgraded parts (borla exhaust is smashed)? I thought they said something about it will be restored back to it's factory condition.

Only if you got GEICO and added it to your policy?! I did that online with my old truck...they allow for mods to be listed and will reimburse you for them....but you will be paying a mo fee for ins on them.

That really blows man, I hate to see that, but the story is all too familiar around here as well. There are so many illegals that if you are driving in the city limits and get hit, there's a pretty good chance that it will be one of them, and none have license or insurance (tbh, most of the ones that are legal don't have insurance but that's a rant for another day, lol). After going through this myself a few years ago, and having at least 3 family members go through the same thing, I make sure there a a specific uninsured motorist policy on all of my cars. And people wonder why our danged insurance rates are so high. The ones that play by the rules always get screwed one way or another.

Yeah, be careful with that. Remember the bodyshop guy is drooling to work on the car, as totalling it does nothing for him. He most likely will get the work with an initial estimate and then have multiple/major supplimental charges throughout the process. In other words, he will make the job look/sound not as bad and then pour on the charges once he is in to it.

The other thing hurting you is the rediculously high values of the 11's right now. That raises the bar for percentage of repair.

I can tell you that a good used car manager will be able to pick up on the major repair, and yes your value will be significantly less on trade in.

Well I had no option and it was fixed and actually came out really well. There was no structural damage just cosmetic, they couldnt even fudge numbers to get it close to totalled. So here it is fixed o yea and its for sale lol.

depending on how the laws in your state work, you may be able to sue for the depreciation, but it can be difficult to prove.

Sorry to hear that, but to echo what others have said, I'm glad you're not hurt. The person who hit you? I can't say the same thing for her.

As for it being totaled or not, it's tough to say, without being able to see what the floorpan/frame looks like. I've heard of insurance companies going up to 90% of value before totaling, especially on a new car that's got a lot of money left on the financing.

When I was hit in my wife's old Mazda 3, it was worth close to $14k (even after three years), and the damage was almost $12k. The damage/value was at like 85%, and even though we were way ahead on payments, they still wouldn't total it. The repair was very, very good, but because of the extent of the damage, we traded it a couple weeks after getting it back on a used Mercedes C280. Value before the accident was, like I said, close to $14k, based on KBB and NADA. Trade in amounted to about $8500, so we really got screwed.

One day, the kid that hit me is going to get a ton of manure delivered to his driveway.

But its hard to sue someone who doesn't exist. She most likely will never be seen again, at least not under the name she was using at the time of the accident. But she will have a new name and be driving around again within the week most likely.

Looks like you might have a lot of suspension damage.

This was $4,000 worth of damage to my Mustang

Oh man, first really hope your fine, and make sure you're not suffering from side effects of that accident . What a bummer, so that's what a Sterling 5.0 looks like when all smashed up....not a nice sight.
From the photos i say if they don't total it, it's pretty **** near . Keep us posted and good luck.

If there is any damage to the strut towers or rear suspension (ie where it mounts to the body) that would be considered totaled. Have the body shop check the suspension mounting points, some body shops will attempt to fix it even if it is totaled for the money but the car will never be the same.

If the mounting points are good to go, there is absolutely nothing a body shop can't do (even R titles can be realigned) but I would push for the "totaled" if there is visual evidence that the mounting points have been warped due to impact.

Can't get blood from a rock. I mean this when I say it.....uninsured drivers should be taken out back and shot, period. I was almost killed in my 91 gt that I had just got done dumping forged motor, blower, lentech, body parts, paint, etc three days prior by an uninsured motorists. These uninsured drivers are taking peoples lives and futures in there hands and they should be dealt with accordingly. My lady ran a stop sign....with a concussion, broken shoulder, glass in face and chest, airbag burns on my face, I climbed out the sunroof of the stang ran over to the stop sign, ripped it out of the ground, threw it at her, then passed out. F@ckin scumbags. I'm so glad your ok.

Man, I am sorry to see this...and to a fellow South Carolinian!

I'm also in Columbia as well...and this is what happens after a few weeks of perfect weather and the first rain...sigh.

Glad you are ok and the value depreciation is described here: http://www.insure.com/car-insurance/...car-value.html

Since it is going through your own insurance company, they would be the ones to cover it. Since this is more than likely going to be on a carfax (assuming it is not totaled) you need to get a local Ford dealer to give you a written estimate of the loss value of the vehicle.

My wife's Outback was hit for a small claim ($700) and she got almost $200 in loss of value...so it never hurts to try.

If ya need help with anything, feel free to PM me.

Did you really ripped the stop sign out of the ground! Just kidding you.
I can understand your frustration when such a situation arises. Been there done that .
