MT82: Anyone else have a sense of impending doom?

So for those of us out there with no sign of trouble from their 6spd transmissions so far...is anyone else finding this issue to weigh on their mind?

I find myself looking for funky shifts or unusual sounds...it's definitely taking away from an otherwise positive ownership experience and I don't even have the problem (yet?) !

Thoughts?

MRGT, I noticed that you're from CT. Quick question, do you drive your car in winter/cold temperatures?

I believe my issue developed around 4k miles, in winter. My car is a DD, so I drive it through all the conditions. It seems like it started to crap out when it's cold, well below 30F. It just continued from there and it does get better with warm weather. I also wish to know what is the cause of all this but Ford isn't stepping up to the plate.

Interesting..sorry to hear you have the issue with your machine.

For the most part, my car stayed in the garage this past winter. I did take it out for a few trips around the block to keep the tires round, etc but only when the roads were dry and clear of snow (rare this winter) but I suppose I did drive it when it was in the 20s once or twice.. didn't notice anything weird at the time.

Have you brought your car in yet?

At the risk of jinxing myself, no.

Both the TR3650 from my 2003 GT and the 6MT from my 370Z were noisy and clunky as hell, especially in cold weather, but never gave me any real trouble. The MT82 feels and behaves perfectly normal to me.

I actually had a failed transmission 2 blocks down the road after I purchased the car. It was unrelated to the current rough shifting issue, but an issue nevertheless. I guess I didn't have a gear so Ford gave me a brand new transmission. So far, the issues with the rough shifting seem sporadic. Some are affected by the cold weather, others in all seasons. Ford doesn't have a fix for this.

I am not taking it in yet, but I think I will in a week or so. The issue comes and goes once the car warms up. I think my syncros are messed up because of all the cold weather grinding. I will let them repair it two more times, then I will lemon law it. I love this car, but it's a pain in the *** to have this problem. I invested at least 2k in appearance mods too. Such a waste.

I just have terrible luck with Ford vehicles.

Definently sucks but I think they will figure out a resolution for these transmissions.. There is really no other choice...

I assume the Boss has the same trans as us right? If they don't get it figured out soon i could only imagine what a boss owner will feel like.

I don't worry any more about my transmission being defective than I do about having a heart attack. If there are no signs you have a troubled unit, why stress yourself worrying about something that could possibly go wrong one day?

Why worry? You have a decent powertrain warranty. Just don't give anyone a reason to question if you've abused the vehicle and you're going to be fine.

its not the warranty that eases me because as far as i'm concerned we have all seen how ford will do anything to NOT replace a unit. for me its the fact that i really haven't had an issue with mine yet. plus i think there is a little hysteria going on right now with manual owners. no doubt some may be faulty and no no doubt there will be some more, but i would be willing to bet that 97% of manual owners dont and wont have an issue............i hope....lol. plus you will beat yourself to death worrying about what could go wrong with your car.

Mine was built Feb28.11 12 5.0...

Haven't had any trouble at all even @ 20 degrees and I have 2700 miles on her.

I do worry about it sometimes since theres no fix for the issue.

I just turned 9500 miles and although it is not a daily driver, I do drive it all year. I just took the Blizzaks off last month. I found, in extremely cold weather, below zero to around -15 the transmission is balky for the first few miles, but hey it's freakin' cold! I have been starting the car, shifting to neutral and letting it idle for a few minutes. This seems to help with the hard shifts. I have no noise or vibrations, so far.

And, I do not worry about it grenading while driving. Enjoy the car, and if it self destructs, it self destructs, there is nothing you can do about. It certainly isn't worth getting an ulcer over.

thank you. Every mustang GT trans had weird issues when cold. These people are lame, probably coming from mom's mini van or a civic. Honestly i think half the problem is people not understanding the skip shift.

An for the beat off's that complain ford doesnt do anything. shut up. dont come in with every single bolt on and bald tires. Use your head.

Not to pick on you, but your statement fits my comment. Yes the transmission is manufactured in China, but it is designed in Germany by Getrag. I'm sure everyone realizes the iPhone has parts manufactured all over the world including China. Do we blame China when the iPhone or iPod has issues? No Apple gets blamed for it. Yes, if it ends up being a materials quality control issue I ave no problem blaming China, but if this is an actual design flaw will we actually see Getrag and German engineering get blamed? Probably not.

Probably more than you know!

Which makes me wonder is the M6 in my car "hencho en Mexico", IIRC Tremec is a mexican company!

Guess I'll call my car, Bender Bender Rodriguez

Then there "was" the ckutch, it was italian (even though the real culprit was the flywheel).
