Exclamation Longest Wait For a VIN?

Hey guys. Ordered on 6/30 and I still don't have a VIN. Not even a DORA because when I called the dealership, my salesman said he "didn't have an order number" for me. I think he was just being lazy... or at least I hope so.

Anyway, I was wondering: how long has everyone waited for their VINs? Anyone longer than me? I'm almost at 7 weeks.

Sounds like your dealer doesn't have an allocation to order a car. Cut through the BS and speculation and ask him!

I think your salesman is either lazy or ignorant. You should have an order number the day your car gets ordered in the system. My salesman let me pick my order number in fact. After all this time you've waited, it's time to take your concerns above the salesman. If it is an allocation problem, find out when, or take your hard earned money elsewhere. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

All right, then. So I'm assuming a 7 week wait for a VIN is way out of whack? If it is, I'll be calling him ASAP... I should at least have an order number.

Yeah 7 weeks is bad, I thought 5 weeks for mine was a little longer than most but I knew I had to wait 4 weeks for allocation. Has the dealership you ordered at sold any 11 mustangs yet?

7 weeks without a VIN is unusual, but not having an order number is near impossible.

Wow, I would find out about the dealer allocation......and if they give you an answer that doesn't make sense then take your money somewhere else...

All right, then. Going to drop by and visit the dealer today or tomorrow.

I ordered on 7/3 and still have no VIN. Talked to my dealer today. He promises he'll get me one as soon as he has one, and tells me to be patient.

I waited 8 weeks to get my vin.

And to the OP, if your dealer does not have a DORA, then he doesn't have a car ordered for you. As others have suggested, you should call your dealer and try to find out what is going on

My dealer entered the order while we waited, and gave us a copy of the printout. I believe we had a VIN within a week or two. FWIW, it's a huge dealership.

I've heard that Ford only updates their systems (or assign VINs or whatever) on Thursdays so there's no point in checking more than once per week. Is that true?

I ordered on 2/12 and still don't have an order number!

it's ok though, delivery date isn't 'til march '11 so I got a ways to go before I start expecting one. Just remember, no matter how long you've been waiting, somebody's been waiting longer. Actually, I haven't met anybody who's waited longer than me, but I'm sure they're out there somewhere.

Most amusing... yes, still waiting for the delivery of my '05.
