Locking Fuel Plug

I am heading out on a trip and with gas prices going up on a daily basis, I figured a locking plug for the capless refueling system was in order.

I just received it today. Something I will only use when the car is parked at a hotel, overnight, but a good precaution. I thought I would put this out for anyone interested.

The Ford part number is 8U5Z-9C268-B on the outer package. The inner package has the number 8U5A-9C268-AC, which is also on the plug.

It is small, light weight and will fit in the glove box when not in use.

I purchased it from CJ Pony Parts for $27.16, shipped.

What does it even look like? And, is it a a pain in the a** to insert or remove?

It looks easy enough.

I'm ambivalent regarding this thing... although it'll keep the casual ones from stealing gas, the hardcore is gonna drill your tank, and that would *definitely* suck.

So... I just dunno whether I should do a locking cap or not...

The locking gas plug is more to keep unwanted stuff out of your gas tank than keeping people from stealing your gas. ie stop vandalism. Ever try to siphon gas from a modern Ford? It's a beotch.

If someone wants your gas the easiest thing to do is pop a hole in the tank and catch it with an oilchange tray. It's easier than trying to get it out of the fillpipe.

You are right. I was concerned about kids cruising the lots looking for gas, more then someone looking to drain the tank. I had not thought about it being a problem to siphon the gas. I was also concerned about vandalism since we have seen some cases of that on here, although not involving the gas tank. Maybe I am just paranoid

The plug is simple to use, and goes on and off with the key. As I said, it is small enough to leave in the glove box when just driving around home. It is nothing like the regular, full size, locking gas cap used to be.

I wish Ford had made the gas door lock, and also part of the alarm system as it is on my wife's Passat wagon.

Had it for 9000 miles now and it's very easy to use. I leave it on all the time because you never can be too careful.

Even a button inside the car to release it would be great. I had a button to pop the gas door in my '93 Topaz ferchissakes.

Same thing I thought when I got mine last week. It should have been there on the console with the trunk release.
