Just test drove GT

Fully loaded coupe----
Kona Blue, 6spd----shaker1000/gears/hood scoops/

Car even had Louvers on it

literally everything except nav

I hate to say it, BUT i was NOT impressed by it-----car is WAY to quiet, and you need to get high up in the tach to feel the power----NO LOW END GRUNT!

With thte deals going on for a 2010, it has me thinking------2010+Blower

Im dissapointed, that is my humble opinion, dont bash me for it

PS: is it just me or does anybody else find Reverse a little bit tricky? "press in and up left" felt weird in a stang--

No, seriously, like I was saying when you tested a dual-mode exhaust 'vette, the 5.0 isn't going to be able to approach that level of noise without an aftermarket exhaust. It's a common complaint among enthusiasts with nearly all factory exhausts, but you know the truth of the matter: More people want a quiet car than a loud one, and people who want a loud car will be the enthusiasts who go aftermarket.

Pretty much all the commentary is spot on what most everyone else has said. The 5.0 is just a different beast from the LS3 engine. Coyote gets a lot of power for its size, but the LS3 has more displacement, and that's where you get that low end torque. They kinda take different roads, and it's going to be more a question of your personal preferences (and if you're willing to go aftermarket on exhaust ).

Obnoxiously loud cars are annoying, especially in the city. Dudes are obviously compensating.

And yet it will run in the high twelves in stock form.

Not sure what you are expecting for around 35k.

+1. Walk softly and carry a big engine. I prefer the quiet.

Also, remember Silverbull, the GT has some pretty strong sound deadening on the interior. Outside it may sound significantly more like what you'd expect.

Not to mention the mufflers don't open up till 500 miles and I'm at 800 and it's still getting louder.

I agree about low end torque, but you are comparing it to the lsx motors which is a lil unfair.

Ford definatly took a different approach this time around going for higher revs instead of low end muscle, more so going after the bmw style of rpm range rather than american muscle rpm range.

Some have said they liked it and some have disagreed with it. To each his own.

i have to say the best interior sound of the engine has come from Jay Leno's garage when he has the windows down and driving. you can hear the grunt from the engine and it sounds amazing.

I do too, makes no sense to me to go in this direction.

Maybe a nice twin screw s/c will give us the best of both worlds

who know...the 2011 is everthing i could ask for in a $30k car that is already getting 20 mpg and runs 12s. i just wish he had got a corvette and we could be done with all this...

Everyone's different. I love a high rev motor that gives you a rush up top.

Had a 1915 in my bug that was a buzz bomb. Went to a 2332 stroker that was a grunt motor. Liked the 1915 much better.

Hate the feeling of a grunt motor being 'all in'.

Love the feeling of a buzz motor's "When's this going to end!"

I was going to hold off but screw it, I'm going to go test drive one on Friday. If I don't like it, shoot me. No, not really but hey I will then know for myself how much the low end really matters. Maybe I will like this a lot more than a torque monster. If not I can get a 2010, hoooray, that was easy!

my 95 had STOCK mufflers to the end.. but running an catless h-pipe for half the time i owned it.. was awesome.. wasnt too loud, nice and throaty at idle.. when i got on it.. really opened up..

after a while the smog police caught up with me .. got tired of switching pipes over.. bought a bassani x-pipe w/cats.. still ran stock mufflers and it sounded even better.. slightly quieter..

If it's a rice burner, yes, but a V8 Mustang? There may be no better sound and there's no such thing as too loud.

Having said that, the OP's concern is hardly valid considering how easy and inexpensive it is to change the mufflers on our cars.

Silverbull, I would say that the cabin of the new 2011 is so comfortable and quiet, the power is fooling you. As for others talking about high or low end power... I like playing around on the freeway sometimes when traffic is low. Putting my 5 speed into 3rd gear at 60 mph, acting like I'm in Nascar, speeding up to around 90 mph then backing down to 50 or 60. Still in third. Then speeding back up to around 90. Yes, the best power is from 3000-4000 rpms and up.

I agree, there is such a thing as too loud. I had a catless H Pipe and Flowmaster exhaust and it was too loud. It also lost some of the subtlety to the tone. I know it's a different car, but generally this applies to all Mustangs.

As far as the low end, yeah maybe you should be looking into a 2010 GT500. Probably wouldn't be that far off in price from a loaded 2011 GT. To each his own in how they like to feel their power.

I'm sorry, but I don't get the whole, "it has no low end" mantra that seems to have permeated a lot of posts lately. I test drove a 2011 GT with, I believe, 3.31 gears a week or so ago and, coming from a 2007 4.6L 3V Mustang GT, this thing makes all sorts of power all throughout its RPM range, not just up high like European V8's (and the 3V 4.6L). Now, if you're used to driving LS1-equipped Camaros or Corvettes then, yes, I can see where you're coming from; otherwise...
