Just how much of a difference is the 5.0 vs '10 4.6?

i have a 2006 gt and picking up my 12 tonight. they are different but i have 3:55 in the 06 and 3:73 in the 12. highway mileage wont matter much if you drive it reasonable. you will like the extra gears. reason i went with the 3:73 was because i put 3:73 in the 2003 i have and liked the extra power it added. i drove it mostly hightway and if i was good with driving i got good gas mileage. you didnt have to rip into it to get it going where you wanted to.
ill be keeping the 2006 and trading the 2003 for the 2012.
either choice is good. if your in a cash crunch, id keep the 10. better to be out of debt than in debt.

my understanding is that the 5.0 was only a cosmetic change just a fender badge, engine cover and small changes to the marketing program.

this is what i choose to believe until i upgrade

I've never driven an 08, but my 10 GT with 3.73's was pretty much dead even to around 60 to my friends 11 with 3.73's (a couple of bumper lengths in the 11's favor). We even switched cars and the results were the same. After 60 however you'll get a great look of the rear of the 11 fairly quickly.

Just test drive a 5.0 and make a decision. No one on here is going to convince you one way or the other more than you can convince yourself.

I've owned both. Do yourself a favor, and learn from my mistakes. Keep your 2010. Words of wisdom my friend. I would go into extensive detail from why I dislike this car so much, but the list is literally to long. The only possible reason Its worth it is if your a real tire kicker and you love to go to the drag strip every Friday night. Im sure most will disagree with me, but im sure there are those who understand as well.

Yeah! I know I'm very much so 'slow' now, but that was very vague. We/he needs reasons, not just cause you say so. Right? He is maybe fixing to spend a great deal. Tell us some exact examples, please. Sorry, too.

Just saying 'words of wisdom', isn't telling him anything.

No mods = 2011, 2012

Mods + supercharger = 2010

Ugh. This is exactly what I didnt feel like doing but since everyone is complaining I guess im obligated too.
1. Your gonna lose too much money on your 2010
2. Your payments are gonna increase which always sucks
3. Like I said in my previous post , unless your a die hard drag racer I dont see many benefits of having the 5.0 over a 4.6 for a street car.
4. From my personal experience the 5.0s entire drivetrain is overall loud and annoying at times. As im sure you can see there are basically various threads daily about someone complaining about a tick, whine, clunk, un smooth shift transitions, howlling through the shifter, these are just a few. I cant guarntee you will have or notice all these signs but I have. Which basically lead to me getting very pissed off.
5. I think the 5.0 is a good performance car and bar none its a better performer then the 4.6 in every way. However, imo when you beat on this car it doesnt feel like an old school mustang that can handle it. ( Even though it really can) .
It gives me a false sense of something is going to break. This next statement take it how you want. But the truth is the car feels like a Bmw m3. And if I wanted an M3, I would have bought one.. That also means that it just doesn't feel as brute or tough to me for some reason as other mustangs ive owned . I could go on about a lot more but my life isn't sitting by this computer waiting for someones rebuttal on my opinions. So do what you want OP. At the end of the day its really only up to you anyways.

Supercharge your car and you will be fine
I never grew to love the looks of the 10+ models (no offense) so for me my 08 is everything I want and I have a procharger to put on it next year.
The lack of horsepower isn't a big deal for me I don't have that "i need to be faster than" feeling but I personally want a little more oommph and that is where the supercharger comes in, I love everything else about my car.

Yes, a supercharged or a turbocharged car can be lots of fun but if you can make the same power with an engine that is breathing regular old atmospheric pressure, you're better off. Less weight, less heat, less complexity, less maintainence, less noise...and the car will be still sellable, if you're worried about that.

Personally, I'd take a 315hp 3v over a 415hp supercharged version of the same motor. There's nothing shabby about 300hp+ car...and that 4.6 is still a honey of an engine.

If you really need more power, it might be worth investigating a swap for the Aluminator 5.0 crate motor- $8,000 bucks but it comes with the forged internals....so it will cost you a bit more but you'll have a much more interesting car...and possibly a faster one too.

Drive train is noisy? Maybe for some but mine is very quiet. Luxury car quiet actually. The 4.6 feels like a lazy truck engine after you have driven the 5.0.

there is something to be said about owning the last year befor a major revision.

and given the problems with the new powertrain(even if it is exaggerated)

i had a 98 gt vert back in the day and it was the last one before the new edge revision. granted the car was slow in stock form but it never gave me any problems i didnt create.

i miss that car now and want to get another one in the spring. sure the new 5.0 is nice but if i found a used 2010 equipped the way i want(vert, gt, manual, non black in and out), i would prob try to get it for great price and enjoy the hell out of it.

not to mention the insurance will be cheaper on a 2010

I test drove both before purchasing my 2010. Yes the 5.0 is faster. Yet the 10 is cheaper and technically not much slower if you look at the times. The 4.6 has been around a while. All the kinks have been worked out and is fined tuned. Ill get the 5.0 in thee future for sure. But I wouldn't get rid of my 10 at all. If u find a 11 or 12 with every option u want and you have the money then jump on it. But u can get a 10 fully loaded. Boost it and still have not spent as much as a 11
