Insurance Coverage

Sorry dude:
"Our Rabbis taught: We sustain the non-Jewish poor with the Jewish poor, visit the non-Jewish sick with the Jewish sick, and bury the non-Jewish dead with the Jewish dead -- all for the sake of peace." (Talmud, Gittin 61a)
Here's the thing I don't get, and I;m asking seriously -- if you make 29k and pay a boatload for health insurance, this law will totally help you when it goes into effect. You'll get a big subsidy to help you pay your bills. Are you just against it because you don't like Obama personally?

I don't want a hand out. I pay for insurance and I file a claim when I have one (I have had many and received many tens of thousands over the years). What I want is lower taxes and some freedom from the current (and growing) overbearing Government rules and regs. And cheaper insurance rates that comes from competition. Look at what happened when the gov broke up ma bell??? Look at the new myriad of communication choices - and the birth of the internet - and the dirt cheap rates compared to ma bell. That came because of competition in the free enterprise system - not because of socialized telecommunications!
Have you had to battle Administrative Agencies? If you have I seriously doubt you want them interfering with your Doctors. And Pelosi is creating how many NEW Agencies??? My small rural community has a hard enough time attracting physicians and the cuts to their pay is only making it worse and my choices fewer. FACT!
What I want is true reform in the healthcare industry - however Obama did nothing to break the monopoly of the insurance and healthcare industry and did nothing to correct the greed of the ambulance chasing legal industry. His plan is a scam that did nothing but continue the status quo but shifted the cost to the taxpayers that work and pay for insurance. Do you get this? AND forced people to buy something that many people simply do NOT want to pay for.
I don't have anything against Obama personally. But his actions have been very dictatorial. He won by a small margin (7%) and treats everyone else in the country like they are idiots. He belittles Tea Party gatherings - citizen/taxpayer/voters that are (finally) getting involved instead of watching TV. He should NOT have sidelined his opposition - now any talk of bi-partisanship is phony and not trusted. And my goodness - WE ARE BROKE! We have to get back on track before we consider any more unfunded mandates. We built a $14 TRILLION GDP economy (and take care of millions of poor folks) with Free Enterprise - not Euro Socialism. And our Constitution is about Freedom and the Free Enterprise system. Not about King George over taxing us and burdening us with his obsessive compulsive rules. We left England, remember?
WE should be helping our community through our churches, synagogues, clubs, service organizations because our heart compels us to give. Not because government mandate forces us and takes from us.
What I don't understand is why on earth people of Jewish descent or faith continue to bow to anything Obama wants when he outrageously violated national protocol and horribly disrespected PM Netanyahu - one of our greatest allies today and throughout history. Yet he rolls out the pomp and circumstance for Mexcio's President Calderon.
Why would YOU trust Obama's rhetoric??
PS: Please know, while I disagree with many of your opinions, I mean NO disrespect to you as a person.

You want to redistribute wealth and help the poor? Donate to charity.

Don't you realize reliance on government handouts and subsidies is just a form of neoslavery? Nothing is free. The government offers to pay for my commuting costs and I don't use the money. Why? Because taxpayers shouldn't have to pay me to go to work. It's nonsense.
You want to redistribute wealth and help the poor? Donate to charity.
You missed the memo. We all oppose Obama because he is (half) black, duh.

apologies
OK, here's one I don't understand about auto ins - the "Medical Payments to others". I've been at the minimum for years but I hear the suggestion to up it from 20k. But how on earth do you figure how high? I keep thinking the agent is trying to increase premiums. Why doesn't the other guys coverage take care of him? Or the uninsured motorist if that's the case?
While the 100/300/50 or 100 is kind of standard, what about this coverage?

How do we transfer some of the posts to the political section and continue under a new "Insurance Politics" thread? Can a mod do that? They can use my name.
As long as the discussion remains on the intelligent side and not the personal dig side, I (and many others) enjoy it. I (and many Americans) still embrace the freedom of speech in America - incl/esp among those of differing viewpoints.
TMS ALLOWS these discussions - but we should be in the appropriate section.

No disrespect taken . . . But I can see that this discussion is really upsetting some folks, so this is the last time I'll reply here.
(People say that folks shouldn't talk religion and politics in mixed company . . . but those are my two favorite subjects!)
Jewish folks that I know don't "bow" to Obama. I just sat in a bar last night with a buddy who's pissed at him for (a) being too centrist and giving in on the public-option, and (b) not fighting right wing smears against him with more passion and anger.
As for Jewish teaching on helping the poor, we are commanded to help the poor and immigrant with food, clothing, and sustenance. We were poor immigrant laborers in Egypt. We are commanded to remember what that feels like.
The word for helping the poor is tzedakah. It comes from the word tzedek -- which means "justice." It is unjust for people to go hungry.
Further, there is a tradition going back to the Torah that one-on-one assistance is good, but is inferior to a communal, public system. Medieval commentator Maimonides teaches that our first concern should be the dignity of the recipient. One-on-one aid can embarrass the recipient (e.g., asking your friend to pay for your groceries). The Talmud instead sets up the idea of a kupa (a poor fund), run by administrators, to give the funds anonymously.
Maimonides sets the highest level of tzedakah as helping someone become self-sufficient, through a loan or education. While that is the ideal, it's not always possible. A story is told in the Talmud of a man who approaches a famous rabbi for food. The rabbi decides to check first if the guy is faking it. In the interim, the guy dies, and the rabbi -- though famous -- is punished severely. The lesson is clear.
(As for Netanyahu . . . we don't have time to get into Israeli politics here! Suffice it to say that I feel toward Netanyahu the way you feel toward Obama. He doesn't speak for me.)
I'm thrilled to keep this convo going, but I think we should take it off of here. Maybe PM me? Or email: rabbimike@hillelsofwestchester.org)

LMFAO
The only reason I use his entire name "Barack Hussein Obama" (HIS NAME, mind you, I didn't give it to him!) is just to roll on the f'n floor laughing every single time one of his worshipers works themselves into convulsions over it. Hello McFly, it is his name!
I'm not calling him anything other than his name, HIS OWN **** NAME, somehow you try to construe that into an insult, the irony is overwhelming.
Because so many of his own followers seem to be embarrassed or offended by his own **** name, it makes for a very simply way to ferret out his intellectually challenged followers.
Every single time anyone brings up someone else's use of the guys own **** name like it were an insult, it simply illustrates there own lopsided misguided ignorance...
Can you not see the irony in this?

WoW....I can see this was definately a touchy subject for some! .. but I have to say that I enjoyed it, very much..hehe
AnyWho!!
Insurance is a business and like any other business they exist to make money...simple as that!
They use credit as a tool to determine wether you are prone to commit fraud for personal gain...That is why we pay so much for insurance. 'Fraud'
"Medical for others" I don't believe I have ever heard of that coverage. Medical for others would be covered under the Liability Coverage. If you add Medical to your insurance policy that would cover you or any passenger in the car with you at the time of the accident.
"Gap Insurance"
That is offered through the Insurance Co. although some auto finance co. are offering it at a slightly higher rate. Obviously, you will not need gap insurance if you buy the car cash, or if you made a big down payment...gap is more for people that buy a car with little or no downpayment...or what some people reffer to as being "Up Side Down" on the loan.
Some insurance companies offer better discounts than others...You need to shop around and find what feels like a good value for your money. If you have multiple policies with different ins co....sometimes you will get better rates if you add them all to one ins company.
Also, many people shop for insurance for cost/price...and I understand that a lot of people can't afford some types of insurance but what you should shop for is... what's the best value for your money, what you can afford. Are you getting the best bang for your buck if you will.

Sorry... I don't rely on rabbi's and preachers and priests distorting the Holy Writings for their coffers or telling me what they say. I can read/study for myself. And I do.

FACT!
