I know i'm not the only one - Manual Seat woes
I know i'm not the only one - Manual Seat woes
I have a base GT and the manual seat drives me nuts. Nearly everytime I get out of the car my pant leg gets caught on the height adjustment. I just know one day that i'm going to snap that thing right off when I get out of the car in a hurry.
Anyone have a DIY fix or how do you deal with it?
All the 05-09 GTs had power seats right???? Ford why did you do this?!

While differences between a manual seat and electric seat may only be $50.00 (but I think that's probably wrong by quite a bit) you have to also take a look at total R&D development on the car.
The 2011+ cars must sell at a price suitable for Ford to cover the entire cost of the car in parts/labor as well as all R&D expenditures. This includes, at least in part, the development of the new manual and automatic gear boxes, the 5.0 and 3.7 engines, all of the chassis enhancements, interior upgrades.
And on down the line.
These cars when well equipped have equipment and materials that rival cars that cost much more. In that lies the problem, the mustang could very easily price itself out of it's own market. It's always been a working man's car. But, especially in this economy, there's no longer a ton of working men that will pay $40,000 for a car, let alone a mustang.
So, in order to produce a car under 30,000 you have to cut some corners. That means manual seats, less electronics etc.
It's our own fault though. Mustang fans have been chomping at the bit for a long time on the poor interior fit and finish, lousy materials, no 6 speed, more power. So Ford gave it to us. Now we complain that our once simple, inexpensive car has become too expensive. IMHO Ford has done a **** good job keeping prices in check and offering variants that can be had rather cheaply. Or if you want the cushy leather, electronics, power seats, monster sound system, styling packages etc, you can get those too.
That might be true if all you're looking at is the seats. The seats represent a fraction of the total design changes from 05-19 cars to the 10-11 cars. There were then further design changes from 10-11.

The problem with the lack of a power seat in the car is not just a question of luxury. The manual seats are very low, and short people really suffer in them.
I agree that nobody would rather have smaller brakes instead of the power seats, but rather that they'd rather just pay $50 more to have them come standard on the passenger side as well.
As is now, just to get a power seat for the passenger, you have to combine it with heated seats for $500, which is just stupid. Now that is a luxury item that many people would happily do without, and which in fact is totally unnecessary in many parts of the country.
