Horrid gas mileage
Yeah, yeah, I know, nobody buys a Mustang for mileage. However, the op is obviously concerned, so here is my story. My 2014 is a stock V6 automatic with 2.73 rear end. Around town I get about 19-20 MPG. On a road trip to Dallas from near Tacoma in Washington State for Christmas we averaged 30.33, and had a couple of tanks that went significantly higher than that. There were time when the Miles To Empty after a refuel was a number somewhere above 500. I never went that far, but I did have a few tanks where I went over 400 miles.
A lot of you would never be satisfied with a V6, but I find it to have more than enough power to keep me happy. I get to have fun, burn regular gas, and get pretty darn good mileage in the bargain. What's not to like?

Just got back from an 800+ mile road trip a week ago. On the way there I averaged 23.5 with my 2014 GT Track Pack Roush Stage 2 with 3.73 gears, 275/35R20 Cooper Tires. The Car only had about 800 miles on it when we hit the road, but it had a tank of non-ethanol 91 octane fuel to start with. Used 10% ethanol 91 the rest of the way. Got 21.5 for the entire 800+ mile trip. Most of the miles were cruising between 75 and 85+ mph. Did have a handful of city miles while away.
Car is still new and expect better with more break-in. Was getting over 17 in mixed driving around home, and I have been putting my foot in it to hear the rumble, and feel the power.

I have a 2014 V6 premium. With only city driving and a purposely light foot, I am managing only around 15 MILES PER GALLON. That is hand calculated, which is slightly worse than the computer which gives me 15.6 mpg, which is still awful!
Any suggestions for what could be causing this? Should I take it to a dealer?

If you spend any significant amount of time idling, hot rodding, city driving with a high amount of stop-and-go, then I think your right on target for the big 3.7L V6. Just because it's a V6, does not mean it should get the near 30 mpg posted on the window sticker.
When the new 4cyl EcoBoost comes to the 2015, Mustang owners should finally be able to pull down some decent city mpg numbers when desired.
For now, try driving your entire next full tank of gas without hot rodding and shifting into the highest gear as soon you're close to your target speed.
My 2012 5.0 with 3.31 gears and bone stock except roush axleback gets 19-21 mixed and 26-27 pure highway at 70mph. I do at least one pull every tank and have never gotten below 19 mpg hand calculated in the year I've owned it.
You really need to explain where you drive, percentage city/hwy, time spent idling, percentage of total drive time spent hot rodding around.

My 2012 V6 was getting low 20s on the highway 70-75, I put premium in it just to see what it'd do, and it went to 28. I don't know if that's from the fuel or it being broken in at this point (6,000 miles).
