Quality of fuel is going to have an effect on fuel economy. My neighbor has owned a Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 since new. He has only ever gotten 10 MPG. Another friend has a Yukon and gets 16.5 MPG. He only used regular fuel. Just recently he tried mid grade and with in five miles it was at 14 MPG.
Good quality fuel will give you more BTU's per pound and a cleaner more efficient engine. GM has a TSB out to address drivabilty issues and no"check engine" light and the solution is "top tier" fuel that really sheds light on fuel.

Actually..there are no more BTUs per pound in higher octane fuel. All the fuel is the same.
In this case "mid grade" (89) is a half mix of low grade (87) and High grade (91).

What you do get is less propensity for detonation with higer octane.
Which is what you friend is probably experiencing with the lower octane.
Detonation = retarded timing = crappy fuel economy

But...the one other thing that could decrease his mileage is that 87 octane fuel usually have 10% ethonal which in itself has a lot less energy than petrol.
Where as 91 octane don't. And 89 is usually 5% ethonal.

So far..averaging 20.7 mpg

I'm coming up on 2000 miles on my 13 track pack GT. Best tank was a 23.5 mpg round trip to Waukegan, IL. Daily driving has been hovering around 20. I don't run the AC unless it is hot, which is not too often in Wisconsin. Around town, I shift at about 2500, and rarely do I rev it too high. I am lucky that my 11 mile drive to work is on a two lane blacktop with only a single light and two stop signs, so not much stop and go. Are you driving in heavy city traffic or lots of stop and go backups? Short trips will also kill mileage. My wife drives less than two miles to work and the SHO gets crappy mileage till it warms up.
Try the following:reduce shift points to between 2000-2500 rpm, cruise in the highest gear possible, use synthetic oil, use ethanol free fuel and use premium. The fuel issue is worth at least 2 mpg by my informal tests, mostly with the SHO. My wife put midgrade in it once, and we lost about 2 mpg. On a trip to the gulf, I had to get gas in central Illinois. No ethanol free premium in the Obamination state, and with all other variables the same, my mileage was down. If you have the auto climate control, I think it may pull mileage down, and if you run Ac with it in recirc mode, mileage goes up. I noticed this in both my SHO and GT.

I'm seeing 24mpg in my 2012 GT, 3.31 rear, since switching back to 93 from my (93 cam tune, then E85) previous tune. This is roughly 80/20 highway/city. I can't imagine the Steeda tune makes that much of a difference vs. stock for you to be getting such terrible gas mileage.

I would ask if you know how to hypermile, but you were seeing higher than average numbers in your 2011, so it's pretty obvious you know how to conserve fuel. You might want to return to stock and see the dealer..

Motorweek reported somewhere around 21 combined mpg with the 2013 automatic GT they tested. While I'm not sure what their driving schedule consisted of, that seems to be in line with most of reports from drivers here who at least try to get decent mileage. Overall for a 420 HP car, that's not bad. It's about what I was getting with my 07' V6 Charger before its life was cut short.

Passed 3,100 on the odo earlier. Current MPG since my last fillup is sitting at 16.1 mpg. It has slowly been increasing as I rack up the miles with the same type of driving since day 1.

This thread has made me feel better. I have a 2012 GT with 3.73s. I drive in a great deal of traffic and cant get any better than 15.6. This is driving in granny mode. I thought my car might need to see the dealer. Guess not.

^ same here, 3.73's manual transmission and I average about 14.5 mpg. I drive it every day to work and back in bad traffic. When I can actually drive it on the highway I get about 17 - 18 mpg.

Saw this the other day. This was 100 mi round trip going 55 mph with a few stops in between, and a little city driving. Probably the best I'll ever see out of this car, but hey, I didn't buy it for the good gas mileage. It did however factor into my choices, my previous car only got 22 mpg, and I was looking for something in that range.

I took a ride to Milwaukee Sunday to pick up the kids at the airport. Cruise set on 72, AC off for most of the trip. Averaged 23.8 mpg. Mileage is picking up as the miles go up. Yes, this is a 3.73 track pack car. I wonder if the green paint makes it feel more efficient.

I have come to terms with the fact that my crappy gas mileage is due to more performance and/or fun and Im good with that.

My car's $0.02...
2012 5.0 with Manual and 3:31s
Usual Highway = 26 mpg
Usual City = 14-19 mpg
(Depending on Traffic and... umm... testing? lol)

Oh! And whoever said buy a V6 for mileage... um... Not a chance.
I bought the 5.0 for mileage! 26 mpg out of a 410+ horsepower muscle car that does 12's in the 1/4 mile? Yeah... I'm okay with 26!

Depends on where your a,t here in the Bible/Corn belt we have E10 across the board no matter the octane rating.

Man you guys must drive like maniacs I get 16/25 under most normal driving and thats with a pessimistic meter.

Haha.

I'm getting probably around 14-15 MPG. Like the OP I only avg around 190-210 miles a tank depending if I'm using climate all the time in the car.

All city driving, once it is on the highway it picks up. Sometimes i think this engine is too big for this town.
