HID Harness - Halogen to OEM HID?

I've got 2011 GT with standard lights. been reading up on making the switch, and after reading tons of HID threads alot of folks recommend i just retrofit my stock headlights but i think i've decided to grab a set of the OEM HIDs/Housing. i've read in quite a few threads and even on ebay that this will work with the addition of a special harness. Where can i purchase this harness? can't find any links to it anywhere. i'm assuming all i need to make everything work is a set of OEM HID housing/ballast/blubs and this harness and everything is plug and play? or is it a bit more complicated than that?

if you know nothing about wiring, I would suggest the harness.
the headlight connectors are different for 2010-2012 and 2013+ (with LED bar) HIDs.

for 2010-2102 HIDs: http://www.projectoretrofits.com/app...s/show/3841314

for 2013+ HIDs: http://www.projectoretrofits.com/app...s/show/3841297

(also, the park/turn signal connectors are different for 2013+ headlights.)

If you are comfortable with wiring in relays and such, I would recommend buying the connectors and re-wiring them into your current harness: http://www.rjminjectiontech.com/search?q=hid+headlight (4 pin is 2010-12 16 pin is 2013+). for about $25 I did the rewire myself versus $100 plus for the harness. But it's up to you. you will need the OEM ballasts in the headlights for this to work.

btw, if you are looking for HIDs, I will be selling mine soon, as I am upgrading to 2013+ HIDs in the next couple of weeks.

i was under the impression that i could only upgrade to the 2010-2012 HIDs (i have an 2011) as the 2013s had different tabs?

either way i will definitely grab one of those harnesses.

on ebay i see some of the OEM HIDs coming complete with balast/bulb and some come "bare" i'm assuming i'll need one of the harnesses above and a "complete" set of OEM HIDs?

how much are you looking to get for yours? pm if you'd like.

sorry i just saw this. you can get the harness to put the 2013+ lights on yours but i think youll have to run a wire to a relay or something for the led drl's. yes youll need the ballast and bulbs for it to work, the kid doesnt have those. you can just make a offer on mine if you would like, it has the bulbs and ballast in it.

the 13 housings are exactly the same as the 10-12 externally, so the tabs are the same. if you want the DRLs to shut off when the turn signals are on, you need to add a special flashback module. I just finished pre-wiring my 2013 headlights with the modules and new connectors for use in my 2010. just waiting for a nice weekend to do the swap.

I believe the guy from projectorretrofits also offers the switchback modules to shut off the DRLs, but he is pretty pricey.

bringing my thread back. bones did you ever complete your swap? anyone else out there complete the swap with the switchback harnesses? still contemplating this, just nervous about any splicing i'd have to do.

Im currently in the process of testing the plug and play harness I made for my 2011 to make the 2013 headlights work. I didn't include the switchback but I am thinking of adding it to the existing harness after I make sure my current harness works with no issues.

well if they work including the switchback feature sign me up for a set. I can't believe the project retrofit guy is the only one who builds/sells something like this.

The housings are not the same. The 2013+ are missing the tab to mount the bumper. Nothing dramatic, can be solved creating a bracket (see picture)

so update on my halogen to HID quest. a guy was selling a pair of 2014 HID headlights in great condition locally for $200. i almost dropped my phone texting him so quick! grabbed those of course. no bulbs/ballast so brings me to my next dilemma. Should i A. pick up the oem bulbs/ballast and buy the harness (whenever some one makes one), or B. pick up and aftermarket HID kit. with the aftermarket kit i assume i wouldn't need any additional harnesses to run them?

I'm also curious, I purchased 2010-2012 oem HIDS and already have HIDs in my old school reflector headlights. Shouldn't I be able to just plug the oem hid projectors I just got in and go?

I've figured out that I will need OEM bulbs and ballasts and also the harness. I've found a guy who does the aftermarket harness for $120 or so. Just need to get oem bulbs and ballasts. It's that simple right?

You can use any D3S hid bulb. OEM ballast can be found on ebay. Just out of curiosity, who did you find that makes the conversion harness? I ask because there were two that I know of that were trying to mass produce it but both failed to keep up with demands and eventually took peoples money and never sent the harness.

FOLLOW UP: I discovered that the retrofit source https://www.theretrofitsource.com/co...2009-2014.html has what I am looking for but requires some alteration. The charge is $ 80.00 shipped. The alteration requires changing some pins and is discussed on the web site. The description is as follows: This will convert an 2010-2012 Mustang from regular non-HID to factory HID BUT there is a wiring pin difference apparently from the F-150 to Mustang. On the F150, the grounding wires were on the number 3 pin. On the Mustang, the gounding pin needed to on the #2 on the headlight connection. So for anyone looking to use this wiring harness to convert a Mustang or just for TRS info, from looking at the headlight right side up, the Mustang went connection is in a row vertical. The connections go as follows.
Pin 1 - 12V
Pin 2 - Ground
Pin 3 - 12V
Pin 4 - High Beam Flapper
- The fit and finish of the wiring harness was perfect. It had a little extra wiring being that it was made for a F-150, but i figured that would be the case when I purchased this wiring harness.
- Connections were factory style and fit perfectly. All the connections were clearly labeled and made the installation a 5 minute install. Can not say enough good things about the wiring harness!
- This wiring WILL NOT convert a 2013-2014 Mustang headlight assembly. Connections are different on these headlights.
Do any of you members have a diagram to show me what they are talking about? Thanks for a reply, Chuck

I found this guy on eBay while browsing for HID lights one day. It's a Conversion sub harness that seems to use a standard h13 wire harness from the retrofitsource. Looks easy to plug all together and have OEM HID on your 2013-15.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/152488055246

I also think he makes one for the 2010-2012's too.
