Heat inside the car....

Well, I took my car on its first long drive recently. I noticed it was a little warm by my legs so I felt around. Around the center console and down the sides was hot. If I slid my hand down between the seat and center console it was Very hot. Is this normal?? Does everyone else get this?

Although I have a 2013 GT, no I don't get that heat you described. More than likely the heat is coming from the exhaust pipes directly under the console. Ford installs sound absorbing and heat resistant material just above the shifter, but why the sides of the console are hot I really don't know. MGW, an aftermarket shifter company, sells a heat shield which bolts up under their shifter, but unless you have their shifter, don't know what to tell you. Other people will probably have better info here than I do. Good luck.

I have a 2013 GT as well; but I just took mine on a 2000 mile drive. During the drive you could put your hand on the side of the center console and it would feel a little warm and in the areas you are describing; but this is nothing out of the ordinary IMO. I have done a lot of long drives and with the engine running all that time, other areas of a vehicle tend to get warm; especially if you are driving under the sun and on a warm day.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless it is so hot to the touch that it is burning your hand.

Yeah happens to me too. Suppose it's normal.

In my dad's G35 after a long drive the area around the tunnel in the rear seats was warm as well.

I felt the same after 1600 miles trip from tx to va, also started seeing bad mpg and power, after my 10k oil change, everything seems to be fine now, I even smelled like something is burning from the front end

I figured it was normal but wanted to make sure. It was only about 135 miles one way.

Obviously there's a ton of he's under there, guess it absorbs thru after a whole of driving, especially in the summer.

Mine gets pretty hot too, especially on the passenger side. It will really cook your leg on a 100 degree day. When I put the rest of my stereo stuff in, I'm gonna dynamat the hell out of the console area and even try to put some more padding in there if I can fit it.

Dynamat might help out. There are other more cost effective solutions than dynamat though. Any foil backed unsulation in place of the jute backing under the carpet will help.

When I changed my shifter to an MGW in my '07 it came with a sheet of dynamat to cover the hole in the tunnel around the shifter. This helped a lot with the heat I was getting.

We use temporary pipe insulation that is very thin and light. No heat goes through that stuff and it's dirt cheap.

Heat soak in that area is normal. I have had that since day one. On hot days it worse than normal. I just went on a road trip up to Charlotte, NC and back and it wasn't any worse than normal. It will be nice in the winter though. Ha Ha.
