Sorry, I didn't mean to ignore you comment, just got a little side tracked. However, we do make sure that each customer does fit the qualifications of the Bama Cam tune before sending it. If anyone has questions about any of our Bama tunes, feel free to talk to a Bama Tuning Specialist directly @ 888.257.1770. They'll be happy to answer any of your questions!

texastboneking,
The Boss 302 Mustang can idle rougher with the Track Key by adjusting the variable cam timing, however the valve overlap is much less, allowing it to have a higher dynamic compression. If you listen to the Bama Cam tune, you'll notice it idles much rougher than the Track Key Boss tune. This increased intake & exhaust valve over lap drastically affects the idle of the car and dynamic compression.
Again, it's physically possible run our Bama Cam tune using the factory cats for a temporary time. We don't offer it because after thousands of miles, the catalytic converters will certainly clog, blow out, or melt internally.

This sounds more like a tuner issue as it can be programed to be safe for cats (obviously... since ford did it)

So what it sounds like to me is.. yalls tunes are pushing too extreme of a fake cam idle. Why wouldnt the company play it safe and mimic the factory boss cam idle?

I'd rather have the bama sound over the boss, then again I don't have cats so I do what I want

I think we're both on different pages here. The Bama Cam tune requiring a catless mid-pipe is far from a tuner issue. The tune was intended and designed to simulate the idle of radical camshafts. Although the Boss Track Key idle sounds good, it's not distinguishable enough for most.
If the 5.0 engine truly did have this radical of camshafts, without variable cam timing, they too would have issues with clogging catalytic converters over time. It's the same deal with our Bama Cam tune because Bama is intentionally simulating an extreme set of camshafts at idle.
Our intentions for the Bama Cam tune are to just have some fun with the 5.0's advanced camshaft technology. We don't market the Bama Cam tune because there isn't any real performance benefits from using it over the Race tune. It's just pleasing to the ear for us gear heads!

Maybe not alot of ppl want the cam idle with cats. Maybe thats why yall just stuck with one agressive cam idle. I figured there was a large market for it and selling a cat safe cam idle would help bring in more sales.
I can tell yalls tune is more agressive sounding at idle. I understand tivvt. I understand the difference in dynamic and actual compression.
Could be part personal preference. I think the stock boss idle sounds pretty beefy with the red key.
To each their own... my broke *** couldnt afford a new 5.0 anyways. I just couldnt understand why you werent making a cat safe cam idle.
Cant even afford the actual cams to make my 97 lope
