Gear buzzing with seats down?

I think I've found something on this before but thought I'd ask you guys:

I have a 2012 GT - when carting some stuff around with the back seats down, I noticed a "buzzing" sound from the trunk (kindof a "zzzzzzzzz", like a tiny saw. Anybody? If the seats are up, windows closed, you can hear a faint bit of it, but was just curious. My 2010 had it too.

Only drove it with the back seat down once. For me it sounded like the diff whining. Its quiet with the seat up though....

Fuel pump noise maybe? They're in the gas tank though, so like another poster mentioned, maybe you hearing the rear axle.

I tried lowering the back seats one day, and found that the slight road noise was a bother. I think I want to buy the rear set delete setup. I never use the rear seat, and think the interior would look clean with a rear seat delete.

Hi chudc,

Have you brought this up to your Ford dealer? I say have them inspect it and make sure there’s nothing going on with your ride. If you need further assistance, do not hesitate to PM me.

Exactly, yup! Thanks for replying ... I know it is the diff; just needed a sounding board

I noticed the exact same noise when rear seats are down, I am thinking it is some sort of road noise, I need to check and confirm with the dealer if it is normal or something is wrong with read end

I had gears done on my 10 when I had it, and it had the same faint buzzing; I tend to think it's the carrier or pinion bearings since they are loaded.

Beware Ford mechanics' opinions (no offense Deysha)! My local dealer has screwed up majorly twice! My 10 had a pinion leak; the mechanic over tightened the pinion which fried the bearings. On my 12, I heard a slight valve ticking - they wanted to pull the covers (80 miles on it btw) ... Fortunately, I had the sales folks with the exact same car, brand new, report this - side by side. These guys were ready to tear it down!!!

Took my '11 to dealer for what i believed to be excessive rear differential noise. Dealer OF COURSE found nothing amiss. I now have a '12 that does not make the noise whatsoever.

Just throwing that out there.

I removed my back seat to put in my CoolTech roll bar. I can hear the diff gears a bit. Sounds like "machinery" to me.

Same here, I hear the exact same noise with the rear seats down. I don't think it's anything to really worry about.
