Maybe what complaining MT82 owners are hearing is just that internet noise (whining) and it is not really coming from the transmission

Why are you only focusing on the driver error part of the report? They admitted that there were other issues, and they've done their best to come up with a fix for them. Like it or not, driver error is an issue. Not everyone knows what they're doing. I've seen posts from people scared to buy an MT82, because of all the problems...and that's rediculous. The problem is not widespread. You'll always find a problem when you've got it stuck in your head and you're *trying* to find one.
You make a valid point. I guess it just pisses me off that Ford thinks I cant drive a manual. Im a older guy and grew up with dump trucks, motorcycles, back hoes, tractors, and three on the tree and a few 4 speeds. 4 Mustangs later also and all manuals. It was normal back in the day for my Ever drove a F600? I have many times.

Times have changed I know. I know how to drive a manual transmission and have never in my life tore one up. Or a clutch but I go test drive one and its as rough as it can be. Maybe it was a fluke.

The other issues are noted. Ford is in so deep with Getrag out of China that there will not be any significant changes anytime soon. They are in bed together and there is no changing it. Somebody at Ford needs to be fired.

Do any of you honestly think the Mt 82 is better than the 6060? Be honest please. I keep cars a long time and durability is important to me. I expect them to last 150K miles with no major issues. Do you honestly think the Mt 82 will out last the tremec? I dont.

Cost is Job 1 from China. Thats Fords new motto. I know there is a lot of pressure to make money but this just sucks. You might be able to pull this off on a Focus or something but you cant fool the Mustang people. Ford underestimated the faithful. Shame on you.

Ford isn't claiming you don't know how to drive. There are some people out there that buy a manual and try to learn on it. How many of the 3% were first time drivers? That's a number I guarantee a few people would like to know.

Do you have any proof of this, or are you just pulling more nonsense out of your rear? Getrag makes some great transmissions, and the MT82 is worlds ahead of the 3650 IMO.

Yes, I do. The gating on the MT82 is better than the 6060, and compared to the 6060 and other manuals I've driven, it's one of the smoothest ones out there. I'm not saying it's the best, but it's worlds ahead of what has been in the Mustang previously.

Yep, there you go again with the China nonsense. Do me a favor, go through your house and toss anything with a Chinese part in it. Your blatant ignorance and bias against any Chinese made product is ridiculous. If the design works, I don't really care where it's built. The development and front end work that went into engineering a product for a specific application are what matters. The ability to reproduce the intended design over and over is where the issue(s) lie. If there are quality issues at the plant for build problems, that's not exclusive to China. Virtually every manufacturing facility in the world deals with quality issues at some point or another.

I have found one thing that seems to influence how some look at the Chinese thing. I am 60.....grew up over the years with the fact that items made in China/Japan/or other countries in that part of the world were second class at best. Throw away items....one time use. When that is an issue for so many years in a young persons life, it does make it hard to change some of those thoughts. I still find it difficult to not have that thought first.......junk.......then I step back and look at things the way they are today.

Not everyone of a certain age thinks like that but it is part of how we were raised "back then"

And yes, there were some good items even 40 years ago......just hard to remember the good when it was so overpowered by the bad.

Concerning the tranny, I had the same thought process when I heard about the place of manufacture. I had to think Ford was not so stupid as to put a cheap product in a good car. Mine is good but I always watch it, just as I would watch any product made anywhere that has a less than great history. Worried....no.

This is a very valid point. I think also the emotional reaction around the location of where this is built also could tie into "US jobs went to China", "China is a Communist country", etc.

When it comes to most products especially car parts, I would trust Japanese products way before Chinese. China had never been known for quality products. Just cheaper products. But I do prefer Chinese food over Japanese food.

I don't understand where your ignorance is coming from... Your only experience with the MT82 is test driving a used car with 2000 miles on it. Maybe this 2000 miles was spent mostly on a track, who knows? I think it is baffling how you can base an opinion on an experience like this, when you claim to be a car guy.

Also, why do you think Ford is referring to you with the report? The people referred to in the report are people who currently OWN a 2011-2012 Manual Mustang... You don't own one so why are you getting upset that Ford is saying YOU can't drive a manual? Now if the report stated that some people who have test driven a used model of the 2011-2012 Mustang cannot drive a stick, you might have an argument...

The 6060 can handle high torque loads. It is built for a different application. If you take forum posts as evidence for concluding whether something is "good" or "bad", you can find them for this transmission mentioning shift quality symptoms - Challenger forum, Tremec forum.

I think Ford's motto is actually "One Ford", meaning look to the GLOBAL market for ongoing business viability. I suspect select people who look at this and other forums are quite aware of the perceptions the country of manufacture for this transmission have created. That said, as others have mentioned, if the engineering and manufacturing specs are adhered to rigorously, I personally wouldn't care where it came from originally.

We're way off-topic now, but I'll say that quality in China is as good or bad as the company paying for their goods to be produced over there. I have no doubt the Chinese can build things of great quality, but quality isn't why companies have moved production to China - it's the almighty dollar and the Chinese workers can't change the parameters given to them by their bosses to make stuff insanely cheap.

Put my studded tires on the Cruiser yesterday. I use a long handled 1/2" breaker bar on the lug nuts. In an effort to speed up the job since the driveway has 4" of frozen snow, I grabbed my long handled 1/2" ratchet to work the jack.
This is my USA made pride and joy S-K Wayne ratchet bought in early 80's - only used for a few applications but I had to lay out for it because I needed it in those instances. (I'm thinking it was like $40ish back then.) Has sat in the tool box for years, used maybe a few dozen times.
So yesterday, in the snow, the freakin' ratchet mechanism won't stay on 'loosen'. Keeps changing to tighten with every turn. Big pain in the ****!

Guess what I finished the job with? My couple of dollars Chinese made 1/2" ratchet from Harbor Freight!

And my 3/8" Japanese ratchet and sockets bought in '72 for my dirt bikes continues to work great even after years of having the carpola beat out of it.

Made me think of this thread.

I have called Ford to schedule another test drive. I understand your point. You are the sanest person on the board and I take your opinion to heart. I still have my doubts and the long term longevity is a concern.

Im going to go drive another one. I will report back and be as honest as I can be. I give you all my word on that. Ford has called me back and they have several brand new GT's that I can drive. See you all in a few hours.

Have you even done any research on the rising cost of labor in China? It is predicted that because of the rising labor costs there, by 2015 it will be 70% of what it costs in the US, not including shipping costs to bring the goods overseas. Goverment mandated 15% a year wage increases are in effect. It is not as cheap as it used to be, just the work ethic of the Chinese people is much better than most of America, due to the high population (if you do your job poorly, there are 10 others to take your place happily.)

The MT-82 was designed by Getrag, a German company, with some guys who really know what they're doing. Compared to a 6060, I would take the MT-82 any day. Yes, there are some issues with the MT-82. Mine is going in tomorrow for a 5th gear grind. But i trust ford to fix it. Ford is addressing these issues, and good dealers are repairing things properly.

Wow. Thanks for your opinion. I dont trust Ford and I sure dont trust most dealers. I wish you the best of luck. I think Ford is in cover up mode. Most dealers I have been to are just incompetent. I use a local indy guy for repairs and he is way cheaper and straight up. My experience with dealers is not good and they are way high on prices.

Im amazed that some of you think the mt 82 is better than the tr 6060. I take you for your word but that amazes me.

High on prices for work covered under warranty that I don't pay for? That fails to make any sense at all.

I do my own work when I can, but I let Ford do warranty work, because that is exactly what my bumper to bumper warranty is for.

If you don't trust Ford, have only test driven ONE 2011+ Mustang that was used, and don't own a Mustang, why are you even on this forum? I would think you have better things to do with your day than participate in discussions that you have no reason to be a part of, seeing you don't own the requisite vehicles.
