has anyone here ever had a CHROME wheel refinished? I didnt really think it was even possible- just wonder how they could strip the chrome without eroding the aluminum?
anyways- peeling chrome and corroded/blstered clearcoat are the biggest reason I prefer polished aluminum...they can be polished forever and stay good as new- bad thing is you MUST keep them polished often or you make yourself immensely more work
the centerlines on my sons mark VII I bought in '95 for my old mark VII that I finally had to scrap, the wheels survive and still look like new...
I bought a ugly set of the honeycomb 'handling package' wheels for our 65 galaxie off ebay for 100 bucks, skim cut the corroded clearcoat off the lips, buffed them- that was 2004, still look great today...love those wheels for big cars, our white 2000 and 2002 mercs wear them also
ended up with polished torq-thrust IIs for my 06, a little 'blingy' for me, eventually might powdercoat the spokes gray or black, but keeping the lips raw aluminum.
nicest finish ive efer seen was Alcoa's "durabrite" finish on the semi and shelby wheels- great bright silver color, cant corrode or blister, really nice- but for forged 6061T6 only...the process would probably dissolve a lowly casting
