Excessive Tire Wear?
Excessive Tire Wear?
Picked up a new 2014 GT with Track Pack last week. Put 1500 miles on it driving it home on the highways. Did some spirited driving today. I was inspecting the tires and the front tires look fine, but the drivers rear tire looks terrible (in my opinion). 19" Pirelli Pzero Summer Tire. The Michelin PSS tires on my previous car never looked this bad.
Swung by the Ford dealer and he said it looked like the previous owner was driving around on gravel roads (with all the cracks, chunks missing and scalloping of the outer tread). I informed him I bought it new, put all the mileage on it, and it's never been on a gravel road. They'll be looking at them further on Wednesday.
Does this look normal? I don't really think I've abused them to cause this amount of wear.

Definitely doesn't look normal...
Looks like dry rot!
My car hits lots of gravel, even off road! and lots of highway miles and they don't look anything like that bad after TWENTY THOUSAND miles.

First, they're Pirelli's. Secondly, it does appear as the poster above me said that the tires were turning on pitted or porous asphalt. You get a few spots where the gravel is prominent and you run the tire over it, it'll give you some pretty good gashes in the newest of tires.
Only done a couple burn outs. Trying to recall, but one place might have been a resurfaced road. What's weird is it is just the one tire on the driver's side.
I'm not impressed with the Pzero summer tires. The All seasons I had on the 2012 held up fine. These summer tires have too soft of a compound. I think they will pretty much disintegrate over time. No wonder they have no tread warranty on these them. (Michelin PSS have a 30k warranty).

Unfortunately for us the better softer speed rated tires have no warranty.
I am not sure if it is because I live in Florida that the Pirelli's are good for me. Little tire wear and great traction. But then again mine are still brand new.
Well you can always burn them off
and get new ones. LOL

After 20k+ miles, i still agree.. also live in the hot south though
Yes, Track Pack wheels. I think I'll hold onto them until next summer. I wanna see how much I like the new 18" wheels. If I feel they flex too much I may try going back to the 19" for comparison. But I'll send a PM your way whenever I do sell them.
