EPS 2012 GT rubbing noise

Just noticed on Monday that there was a rubbing sound coming from front driver side wheel. When turning right the steering wheel didn’t want to turn back after making a slight turn. Now there is a loud rubbing noise when turning to the right. Any idea? Car has 127k miles, just bought used with 124k a few months ago.

Need a clip of the noise, could be front sway bushings are worn out.

Problem fixed

Took to Ford dealership and the steering gear assembly had to be replaced. $1900 for the fix with 2 year warranty.

It is good that you were able to get the problem corrected. $1,900 seems a bit steep, but it was a dealer.

well, if you keep in mind that the steering assist assembly costs about 1500. (refurbished)
400 for the install and programming isn’t too bad.
I fortunately got one of the rare new ford oem parts. Cost: the same.

Greetings from Germany

I guess that is also called the "steering rack" and hopefully you got an updated one . . . so now you can use hard bushings when you get your mustang ready for The Ring! ;-)

The Ford oem steering rack is about $1,000 and does not need any programming. $900 for installation seems a bit steep. I changed mine on jack stands in my driveway in under 4 hours. I could do it faster now that I have done it once. I used the Ford Racing rack to make sure that I could use hard bushings and it cost me $1,080 with shipping.

The 2011 and up got an electric steering rack. It indeed needs a programming after install.
There is a steering position sensor inside that needs to be programmed to the zero point between left and right.

so the pricing is fine at the end.

I have a 2011 with the electric rack and like all 2011's it developed a bad shudder after replacing the front control arm bushings with a set from Prothane. The electric racks are plug and play and do not require any programming. I looked at all options for a replacement rack. The oem Ford EPAS was just under $1,000, remanufactured racks are less than $500, the Ford Racing rack that is sold as a replacement for the Boss 302 R/S race cars was $1,080. I went the Ford Racing route since it was the only one that could be confirmed to not shudder with urethane bushings, sticky tires, and extended ball joints. From your signature it looks like you may be in Germany, are the european spec cars different?

There was no "European spec" until MY2015.

I just bought a new rack for my 2014 GT500.
There are 4 different racks to choose from. It depends on the tire/wheel configuration that is used in particular. They carry different numbers also. The rack definitely needs to be programmed to the car and the zero position also needs to be told to the trackpack system.
This can only be done by the service tool that the dealer got.
It is an original american car that has been imported to Germany in 2014.
