Difference between MGW shifters

So in addition to the new "Race Spec" MGW shifter, there is also a Gen I and Gen II version of the older one. What is the difference between all three? I know the Race Spec has a lot of added support and I can read those details on the MGW website, but what about the Gen I vs Gen II? I'm looking for a used shifter, so probably will only be able to choose between I and II. Thanks!

Hahaha, yeah no kidding. I figured the MGW occult would be all over this one.

could be because no one actually buys MGW shifters and everyone buys Barton shifters.

FTWIW, atleast your thread got another small bump.

I've heard people say they've used both the Barton and the MGW and they say the MGW is worth the extra cost.

It probably is. I just couldn't justify spending that kind of money for it. the shifter is $470 plus to ship it to Canada, I'd probably be looking at around 60 bucks plus the conversion rate....

$470US = 570.91 (looked it up just now)
$60US = 72.83

that's WAYYYY outta my price range. If I lived in the states. I would have gone with MGW for sure.

No complaints with the Barton hardware though. Works as advertised

The way I would look at it if I were you. If you can find an older and lightly used shifter for significantly less, jump on it. If there is a difference, it would be marginal. The upside, is everyone loves MGW and from the sounds of it, nobody seems to complain about the product so, they all must be good.

I paid $225 shipped for a NIB 2014 revision MGW. The last design are now cheaper than a Barton.

I was just on MGW's site. The shifter is listed at $470.

To completely derail this thread, I'm using the Barton two-post bracket with the stock shifter and I'm happy enough. I only DD/canyon carve and never race this car, so YMMV.

I toy with the idea of the MGW (original or race spec), especially when I see a used one come up for sale. Not sure for me if it'd be worth it.

I have a 2013 GT, I've had a Hurst Shifter, and a MGW Version One, I now have the Race Spec MGW, Just my thoughts and experiences. The MGW Shift regardless if it's their 1st Version, 2nd Version or the Race Spec is by far the Best Shift one can buy. The primary difference between Ver 1 & 2 is the internal bushings, 2nd version had more contact and better bushings, The most important thing about a MGW Shifter is the way it made, and that the horizontal gate is adjustable, so one can get the Shifter Dead Nuts on and it shifts positive and smooth. Buy a MGW Shifter if you plan on having the car for some time. You won't be sorry! It is buy far The Best! After a few weeks of driving with a MGW Shifter, Shifting will become second natural!!!!! Even at the Drag Strip.....100% Flawless, 1st to 2nd, snaps straight up to 3rd. Most other people who have other Brands of Shifters installed, probably have never driven a car with an MGW installed to compare!!!!

I use the Barton bracket with the stock shifter, too. I switched to the Barton bracket after having some down-shifting issues at the track. With the Barton bracket in place I have had no missed down-shifts after 3 track days.

Couldn't have said it any better.

I think I have a Gen I, back when it first came out for my 2012. Have no desire or urge to upgrade to a Gen II or race spec. It's perfect as it is. I remember speaking to George (owner and creator) about it before I bought it. Classy guy, and great product. As I always say after my posts on MGW inquiry threads = MGW FTW!!!

I bought mine private sale on SVT Performance. People are being offered $200 trade in by MGW, and the guy I bought it from had bought his just before the race version was announced. Yes, I got a great deal IMO.

hmmm. Maybe I should just wait and save up for the $470 brand new race spec shifter. Or wait a while and see if anyone is selling a race spec used. Thanks for the input guys!!
