Which Dealer to Buy From?
I have 6 Ford dealerships within 45 minutes of me. I am going to buy my Mustang with the X-Plan and I am also going to trade in my current ride.
I was wondering if you guys would go to the smaller dealers for the better deal or the bigger ones.
When I say smaller there is one 20 minutes form me that has only had one GT on there lot.. and it is a 12 GT base. And they have a '11 with 12,000 miles.
They have about 10 cars on the whole lot.
It seems that I could work a better trade in deal with them since they are smaller and do hardly any business (old old old town... not many people with new cars...)
Or can looks/lot size not be my answer.

I am going to order my car. I told myself to just call everyone and tell them what I have and what I want and see what they say about my car. Since I am paying x-plan price the only thing I have to negotiate is trade in.
since x-plan is fixed, who ever gives you the most for your trade-in
edit: you could buy it and service at dif dealers too, thats what i do, dealer near me has the best service dept, but never bought a car from them, and tried 3 times, twice they literally offed me $3k less where i buy

I feel your pain, my wife has been shuttling me to and from work while I wait for my new Mustang. I sold both my 2006 Mustang and my daily driver to plan for the new one. Both cars sold so quick. I sold my Mustang for $3000 over what trade in was on the private market. Broke even on the Daily Car which I still had a lean on, so just needed that one cleared. So it pays to plan thats for sure.
as for your question as around on the local forums if you have one and see the comments on the dealers. But if you plan on trading in find the best $$$ for your trade in. they won't make you give it up till the new one arrives. At least my dealer said if I was trading in they would do that for me.

I am considering asking my wife to be just to drive me to work daily until the car comes in. Yes it would suck :/ but if we could get 2k more for my car then I think I would be crazy not to take it, unless I could get the dealer to give me a trade in that is no less than 1k of what I could get from a private party.
What is your trade-in if I can ask. For me I used Autotrader and Cars.com to get an idea of what the cars are selling for locally. This will give you a better idea based on year, make, milage, condition etc. Only then can you really tell what its worth. Kelly BB is misleading and is often not accurate. Go to one of the web sites i meantions and pretend you are shopping for the same exact car you are trying to sell. I saw my 2006 at anywhere for 9,000 to 17,000 depending on the criteria I stated and put mine up for 14,550 (to have some haggling room) I sold it for just a hair under that. The dealer was offering 11K for trade-in.

On auto trader and cars there is one that has 180,000 miles up for $6,900 from a used dealer. Mine has 106,000 miles.
If you have that many miles I dout t he dealer will give you much of anything. Try $5000.00 on the open market and see if it sells. Remember you will have the time to sell from the time you order and up to 8 weeks to recieve the new car. So that gives you time to get what you look to get out of you old car and continue to drive it untill that day. Start at a average price and as it gets closer to your new car arriving lower the price slightly as time goes by. Cars.com is only $15.00 for 45 days and allows 9 picures and Craigslist is free. Do them both. Also watch out for the web scams when doing so. Don't sell to a Paypal or a person looking for a overseas etc transaction.

Thanks!
What is a good place to take my car to get a check up and maybe minor fixes? We have an O' Riley, Advanced Auto Parts close by.
And any tips for detailing it to make it look better for the sale, etc.

I don't know what type of car it is or what the market bears on the type of car. For me I kept driving my Daily car but kept it pretty clean (As best as you can in the elements) but went out of my way to make sure the engine bay was always 100% spotless (what I do on all my cars) I used a degreaser like deluted simple green to clean any greasy area's (not on rubber parts) lightly sprayed off the engine (Air intake area's wrapped off if applied) I would use CD2 engine detailer. This gave the engine bay a new look. Make sure the rubber and brakes are in good shape (a great selling feature). Again I don't know the car you are trying to sell but make it as best you can so if you were a buyer would you but it as a inexpensive Daily? Everyone is different as the cars are. Myself I was honest and showed the defects as well as the strong points of the car (not going into heavy details on the defect but not hiding them) This shows the buyer you are not trying to hide anything and you can feel good that they are buying as is.
