Convertible questions
#21
I know this won't sit well with all you Mustang people but if there wasn't a convertible Mustang I wouldn't be buying a Mustang. My main reason for buying a car is that I wanted a convertible. The second thing on my list was a 4 seater (but I might have sacrificed that). I didn't want a VW Beetle or a PT Cruiser. Don't like the Sebring. My 2nd choice was a BMW 128i but it would have cost me more and they don't seem to be very popular here. There are other cars that I would have considered but all cost more than the Mustang. I rented a Mustang in Hawaii and liked it. I also rented a Eclipse Spyder in Chicago and had fun driving it around it is what made me really want a convertible for my next car.

Same here. As much as I love Mustangs (this is number 4) if I had to go with a coupe I would have gotten a Challenger. They are beautiful cars, especially when you add a shaker hood.

I too was in the market for a convertible (my first) and had been leaning towards a miata. I've also craved a mustang since I was 16....38 years ago.....and luckily Ford announce the 2011s and I was convinced, thats my car!

I was never a vert fan till I drove one. My Mom has a 6 GT vert and let me tell you its fun to drive. Its an auto which I dont care for but boy oh boy I like to drive it. I personally would not pay extra for it but I am telling you they are great fun. I thought it was a big joke until I got to drive one.
If your like me and have a closed mind test drive one. Make up your own mind. IN my younger days I was all about power. I just could not get enough. Now, I am much more mellow and enjoy a good cruise. Going topless makes it all that much better. 300 hp is plenty for me these days. I just like the feeling or torque from a V8.
Bottom line, verts a cool imo.

Leaving a vert with the top down unattended is not a good idea, regardless of its security. Some loser might take offense its sight, assume its owner is showing off, and proceed to ruin his day just for the hell of it. There have been such incidents posted on TMS and SVT Performance as I recall.
My wife has had verts for years and we don't take chances. Either one of us stays with the car or the top goes up whether for ten minutes or two hours.

I am the exact opposite! I absolutly love the roofline of the Mustang and as much as I would LOVE to own a Mustang vert, it just doesn't keep the sexy, aggresive roofline that I love so much. Until they make a hardtop convertible that keeps its roof structure, then I won't own one. But I wouldn't mind owning a 135i vert. I checked on out before I left for Afghanistan and WOW. That's a cool car. No Mustang, but sweet none-the-less.
Besides, in the right color combo, I've always thought that verts look great with the top up.

I've owned literally dozens of verts since the '50s, and never once had anything stolen from one when the top was down. I often leave the top down when leaving the car, but I am careful about where I park. I have also never had a top vandalized. As a retired cop, I can also say I never took a report of something stolen from an open vert. Talk of tops being slashed to gain entry have almost become urbane myths. Not saying it doesn't happen, but if you are careful, you don't need to be paranoid about leaving a parked vert for a while, top up or down.
i just like the way verts look. and when the weather is nice. whats not to love.
i was going to order a 11 vert but with all these holds im considering just buying a 2010 in white and saddle interior that ive had my eye on. it sure looks nice with the top down. i would put some gears, exhaust, and a shifter in it and call it a day.

Haven't received mine yet, but from the online owners manual:
INTERIOR TRUNK CONTROL
The remote trunk release button is
located on the instrument panel.
Press the button to unlatch the
trunk.
Interior trunk control lockout (convertible vehicles only)
This feature helps prevent unauthorized access to the trunk when the
convertible top is open, by disabling the interior trunk control.
This is useful when you want to leave the convertible top open, but still
prevent access to the trunk.
To operate this feature (the vehicle must be off and accessory power
delay not active):
Lock the vehicle using the integrated keyhead transmitter or the power
door lock switch. The interior trunk control will now be disabled.
To enable the interior trunk control:
• use the integrated keyhead transmitter to unlock the vehicle,
• or turn the ignition on.
The interior trunk control will now work normally.

Does anyone know how to disable/deactivate ACCESSOY POWER DELAY as mentioned above? Also, does anyone know where to get the CONVERTIBLE BOOT COVER? I did not order it with the car and dealerships do not carry it.
Thanks,

I ordered mine with the car (part 59B on the dealer order receipt acknowledgement) and I would be really surprised if it wasn't an option you could order from the parts dept. of any Ford dealer.

I always close roove as habit. So i do not need to worry nor think about if it is needed. (even at sunshine and think(!) next half hour will most probably be no rain, even when i think(!) im only 5 minutes away). (Only exception is when sitting in restaurant outside and i can see the car).

Believe it or not, I spent almost 1.5 hours in the part dept. of a Ford dealer and they could not find it anywhere even from the catalog.

I have a 2012 convertible on order - my research proved that the boot is indeed standard on the GT, and a $160 option on the V-6 model. I added it to my car. For me, while I think I will do a lof of cruising without it on, if out for a serious ride, then I think it looks real dressed up once you take the time to install it.

While I love my 'vert, my advice is to CRTICIALLY test drive both a vert and a coupe before deciding. Having been given a 2010 coupe as a loaner when my 2011 'vert was in the shop, I was suprised at how much tighter the coupe felt. In addition to better handling, the stereo also sounded better in the coupe (better speakers, better placement) than on my 'vert.
I was also surprised to read (after it was too late) how much heavier the 'vert was than the coupe. I guess I thought Ford had pretty much perfected the 'vert since building them every year since 1983.
Another surprise was how much my wife & girls objected to riding with the top down (I'd had visions of us carving up the canyon road with smiles on our faces we'd need plastic surgery to remove). It's a Hair Thing - I didn't understand.
So while the 'vert is a great car and is PFM (magic) when the sunshine is out, if I had to do it again I'd go Coupe (Kona Blue) and use the difference on Brembos and Electronics package. Maybe HIDs too. Maybe A/T + 19's in lieu of Brembos. Dang, I STILL can't decide!!

One factor to point out is just the pure "coolness" of the 'vert. Last Summer I parked next to a 2010 Nissan GT-R, with my top down on a run to Radio Shack. Side-by-side, in comparison with the angular Mr. Roboto Japanese "Wundercar", my vert, at 1/2 the MSRP, was definitely the "cooler" ride IMHO.

Also, you might want to ask them to help you with the other question that I had (it is about disable the trunk release button when you have the top down -- Factory setting is enable). Maybe you will then let me know how to do it )))))...
