Convertible questions
Hi there! I was a member previously (same username), but haven't re-regged since the Great Wipe.
I'll most likely be trading up to an '11 GT this year and am strongly considering my first vert. I'm aware of the usual pros/cons, but for those who have an '11 vert, I was wondering about interior security.
- Do the glovebox and center compartment between the seats lock?
- Is the trunk button deactivated when top is down?
- Anything else I should know about?
Thanks!

Hopefully this isn't a meaningless post as I'm using my 2005 as an aswer but, no the center console doesn't lock (wish it did) and there is no trunk button in the car.
Hopefully I'm wrong because I'd like the center console to lock on my 2011 as well. I tend to put my top up a lot when parking because my radar detector gets stashed in the center as there's too much stuff in the glove box.

Haven't received mine yet, but from the online owners manual:
INTERIOR TRUNK CONTROL
The remote trunk release button is
located on the instrument panel.
Press the button to unlatch the
trunk.
Interior trunk control lockout (convertible vehicles only)
This feature helps prevent unauthorized access to the trunk when the
convertible top is open, by disabling the interior trunk control.
This is useful when you want to leave the convertible top open, but still
prevent access to the trunk.
To operate this feature (the vehicle must be off and accessory power
delay not active):
Lock the vehicle using the integrated keyhead transmitter or the power
door lock switch. The interior trunk control will now be disabled.
To enable the interior trunk control:
• use the integrated keyhead transmitter to unlock the vehicle,
• or turn the ignition on.
The interior trunk control will now work normally.

I love how they turn something so simple into a full page procedure.

Gotcha. I was just wondering as a local dealer up here in NorCal has a 2011 GT vert. It's White/401A Black/Cashmere, Electronics Pkg, Backup Cam, 19" Nickel Luster wheels and Auto. Just FYI ...

Unfortunately, the glove compartment doesn't lock on the 2010. I doubt it does on the 2011, either.

Haha what about the white one I told you about? I know black/black...but it's available now! 401A Black/Cashmere, EP, Comfort, Security and Auto (no backup cam sorry about that). Only thing is it's white and Auto haha!

Leaving a vert with the top down unattended is not a good idea, regardless of its security. Some loser might take offense its sight, assume its owner is showing off, and proceed to ruin his day just for the hell of it. There have been such incidents posted on TMS and SVT Performance as I recall.
My wife has had verts for years and we don't take chances. Either one of us stays with the car or the top goes up whether for ten minutes or two hours.

Coworker of mine says he leaves his top down sometimes because he's had his top slashed and his stuff stolen - he'd rather they just take the stuff than cost him a new top.
Laser: Thanks, but I'm definitely going to be a stickler for manual shift on this one - automatic just feels too uninvolved. (I actually don't want the backup cam, since I plan to do a Roush wing as I did with my '10)

In 2010 Ford put the lock on the console compartment instead. Since there's a power point and IPod input jack in there, that's where people tend to leave their expensive electronics. So that's the compartment that ought to have a lock, no?

I just wish they would hurry up and make a hardtop convertible. THAT would be awesome!
