Coming in 2010 as Per 05stangkc
One omission might be a possible Hurricane/Boss motor variant as has been rumored. But increasing focus on emissions and economy might be working against this "big-block" truck motor option. It would make a great Mach I motor, a latter-day 428CJ - a big, brutish torque-monster of a motor perfect for a stop-light and drag strip racer.
A possible swap out would be the TT3.5 for the 5.0 for a Boss 302'ish type model. While the 5.0 would likely be pretty awesome, there might also be some overlap between the TT3.5, which will be used elsewhere, and the 5.0 in terms of power. Also, the TT3.5 would likely be more fuel efficient and then there's also the cost and effort of developing what might be a Mustang specific motor. Either one would make an excellent motor for a road-racer oriented Boss Mustang.
A TT5.0 would be the one thing that might tip the aforementioned discussion in favor of a 5.0 rather than TT3.5. The current SC 5.4 is obviously very powerful, but also very heavy not to mention thirsty. A TT5.0 could easily develop the same power but with a lot less weight, better efficiency and probably more cleanly. That first consideration could significantly improve the GT500's handling and perhaps it and a Boss Mustang might finally convince Ford to add a 21st century IRS alongside the 19th (9th?) century live axle for fully contemporary levels of handling AND ride (rather than either/or).
This is what I am hoping for:

Mustang GT--- 4.6L 3v V8 325hp 5 sp Manual/5sp Auto
Mustang Twin Force—3.5L D35 V6 TT-350hp 6 sp. Manual or 6 sp Manumatic All aluminum IRS/Brembo 4 Piston brakes/Recaro's/(3400#)
Mustang Boss— 5.0L Boss V8-375hp 6 sp. Manual/6 sp. Manumatic
SVT Shelby GT 500 Mustang-- 5.0L Shelby TwinForceV8-500hp+ 6 sp Manual or 6 sp Manumatic HD IRS/Recaro's/Brembo's/HUD/Ultralight 18"wheels.
Mustang ---3.5L D35 V6 275hp 5sp Manual/5 sp Auto
Mustang GT--- 4.6L 3v V8 325hp 5 sp Manual/5sp Auto
Mustang Twin Force—3.5L D35 V6 TT-350hp 6 sp. Manual or 6 sp Manumatic All aluminum IRS/Brembo 4 Piston brakes/Recaro's/(3400#)

I don't see a place for both the TwinForce and the Boss in that last lineup. One or the other, but not both. I would like to see the Boss at about 400hp with the 5.0 or the 3.5TT. Either would be good in it's own way. That way there is more of a spread between models.
275HP 3.5
325HP GT 4.6
400HP Boss 5.0N/A or 3.5TT
500+HP GT500 5.0TT
275HP 3.5
325HP GT 4.6
400HP Boss 5.0N/A or 3.5TT
500+HP GT500 5.0TT
I dont think many people would like a V6 boss. i dont care how many turbos it has, a V8 always has been and always will be cooler. But i wouldnt mind a V6 boss its just that it would have to be done perfect, because without that V8 rumble, how are you going to scare the ricers away?
Regardless ... V-6(s) SUUUUUUUUUUCK ~ !!!

Engines: (send the V-6 where it belongs)

what about the little daddies girls that all buy mustangs? they deff dont need a V8
I am holding out for a BOSS myself. I always wanted one now it just might be in the cards. The pages in my payment book on my 05 are disappearing steadily and should be gone about that time too!
So while the 2010 should be written in stone by this time, don't be surprised with last minute engine changes just for the "green" PR .
That's right. People keep hoping that Ford will have something to answer to the Challenger and Camaro when they already have! It's called the Shelby GT500 and comes with an ample powered 500hp engine. Realize too that a 400hp N/A mill in a lightened and balanced Mustang will easily dominate whatever is out there in its own class (Challenger, Camaro and even the GT500). Take the Roush S/C mustang that pumps out approx. 400hp and does circles around the GT500. More power is not the only answer. A balanced car is.
CAFE doesn't increase until 2020, another 12 years, it has nothing to do with the 2010 Mustang.
Fine too, less demand equals better deals forthe rest of us that want a 400 horse GT.
I doubt there will be 4 engines too, maybe for an SE. In 2003 we had the V6, the 2V 4.6, the 4V Mach 1, and the Terminator.

And just as important today and in 2010, the Mustang is a drag on Ford's CAFE #s today. Ford has had to do a LOT of work to keep today's Mustang GT from hitting the gas guzzer tax and to reduce the GT's negative impact on Ford's overall CAFE #s.
I would not be surprised to see the D35 TT end up as the GT's engine as it will significantly out perform today's 4.6 3V with better MPG. If there is a 400 HP 5.0, it may only be in a SE model in between the GT & GT-500.
As already pointed out CAFE starts ramping up a lot sooner than 2020.

If there's a Stang with a 400 hp V8, I'll stop modding my current one, and start saving for the next one!
I've said it before.....I like the idea of a TT V8 Mustang, whatever name it has, but I just don't see a TT V6 happening. The only way I could see that is if it was done in a Mercury or Lincoln coupe with more features on it than a mustang. Maybe IRS, a softer suspension....more of a luxury man's sports car (Cougar perhaps?) I dont know it just doesnt make sense to me if they did it for a mustang.....it would just steal aways sales from the GT's or SE that is out. Just my opinion. I will always own a mustang.....but if Lincoln or Merc had a TT V6 coupe, i'd prob own that too, and enjoy both as different cars.
Yes I am on the V8 side too, but a Mustang model that has ALL the GT features (styling, suspension, tires, wheels, etc, etc) but has a 350 HP 3.5L TT would be a very attractive model, especially to people who aren't Mustang fanatics.
To me having both a 350 HP turbo V6 and a 350+ HP NA V8 would increase total Mustang sales and have a positive impact on the CAFE #.
As much as most people here pine for V8s and big displacement NA V8s, Ford needs to reduce the # of V8s it sells to help its CAFE.

I love a good V8. But if Ford offers a 3.5L TT V6 in the Mustang that makes 340+hp and 340+lb ft of torque from 2000-4500rpm in a package which manages a few mpg better than the existing Mustang GT I'm not going to say no unless the V8 is substantially better than the current model. That said the upcoming DOHC 5.0L V8 is supposedly good for 400hp and 380 or so lb-ft of torque according ot the better known insiders. Give me that V8 and a six speed manual and the 3.5L doesn't stands a chance even if I do lose a few mpg in the process. But it would take something like that to keep me from switching so I'll have to wait and see what happens.
